    August 24 rides

Didn't see the thread for today. Not an exciting ride, but I had to share my pictures. We rode around our lake (a 9.5 mile route) 3 times before it got too dark to do more. Just as we're finishing the sun was setting over the lake and I had to take a picture. Sailboats, sun and clouds- so pretty.

THEN, we were heading back to the car and I saw the biggest, surliest snapping turtle I've ever seen. He was angry at the world and jumped at me as I took his picture. Poor guy. Tried to rescue him, but he wanted nothing to do with me. Hope he made it back home alive before a car got him.

(sorry the pictures are so big- I don't know how to make them smaller on my EasyShare software )

Hey, great pics! That guy DOES look surly! Thanks for giving us a peek into your ride today.

Beautiful! Poor turtle, I'd be angry too if I was stranded on the road. Are they native to there or are they abandoned pets?

Looks like you had a great ride though

We have turtles around here, but I've been doing things at that lake for years and have NEVER seen one that big (or dinosaur-ish) out there before. Makes me wonder where he came from. His poor shell was pretty beaten up. Like he'd been in scuffles before- and with his attitude it's no wonder. I wonder how old he is- we were guessing maybe 10-15 years old by his size (but I'm no turtle expert). I'm always teasing DH that I want to snag a turtle off the side of the road and take one home- but not if he's going to grow up and be that discontent.

Whoo hoo, 162km (100 miles) today! We rode around the lake (Kelowna to Vernon) just for the fun of it. We did 5775 feet of climbing (not for the fun of it ) and my legs are so tired. Got stung my a wasp at 152 km point, but was 1k away from the ER so picked up the waspy culprit and rode over to get checked out. Didn't have to use my epipen because the critter didn't get enough venom into me to cause any damage. (Yay) Now I'm off to eat pizza and drink Sangria!

It's the discontented ones that need your love

Wow- that's A LOT of climbing! And then to be rewarded for your effort by getting stung by a wasp? How rude!!
Glad you're ok and hope you REALLY enjoyed that sangria!

Swept a 31 mile club ride. Thankfully, the horrible heat and humidity held off until we were nearly done. This Friday series is getting very fast and I was glad my husband was leading and that there were 2 slower people for me to stay behind. Well, I did go ahead on the hills, but I warned them and waited for them, since I know them both well. I had to give one of them some of my water as he started feeling not so good near the end, and he was out of water.
It's a little strange that when i ride alone or with my husband, my average is usually between 15.3 and 16.5, but when I ride with this group, I feel under pressure to keep up at this speed. So, I am happy to sweep. But, I have to lead one more of these at the end of September and my husband won't be there; I guess they might have to deal with a slower ride.

Only four pieces of pizza? I think you deserved at least 6!

Ouch but that was quite a ride. You should be proud!
