this has turned into a most bizarre thread, half are commiserating with the idea of losing a limb; the other half are in total denial about it and are in an orgy over the beauty of motorcycles.

Sorry ...... Us motorcyclists can be just as passionate about motorcycles as bicycles. When I get a chance to talk about either I glow with excitement. Just so you know, I also flood my motorcycle forum with bicycle talk. As a matter of fact, I've now turned 7 of my fellow motorcycle riders into bicyclists as well. 2 are doing great in triathlons now and another is well on his way to greatness. I just love bicycles and motorcycles ... what can I say?

Well, since we're comparing "bikes", here's mine:

On the story - yikes. That just shows how much of pain recognition is mental.

But, mimi, motorcycles ARE beautiful, in themselves, just as bicycles are. It's dopey, oblivious, the-road-is-all-mine cagers (motorcyclists' name for car drivers) who can make the activity hazardous. And they make it hazardous for all of us on two wheels, whether motorized or not. Loving our motorcycles isn't much different from loving our bicycles--we know both activities have their hazards, but that doesn't keep us from enjoying what we love.
I'm a lot like you, Tiffany, in that I prattle on about cycling even in my m/c forum. I love ALL my two-wheeled ponies.![]()
Love that beautiful scooter, too, MP!

Juju i can appreciate that motorcycles are cool and beautiful; but would you rhapsodize about Bianchis on a thread about a lady riding one losing her leg???
See how hard it is to resist the temptation to talk about our mounts?
Good point, Mimi--I'm sorry your thread got hijacked in an ironic way and maybe even a somewhat twisted way. I may be guilty of springing perhaps too quickly to the defense of my beloved Coyote (my motorcycle's name). But I had no intention of denying the dangers of the road or diluting the seriousness of the incident.

Denial, no. Two wheels are as beautiful as they are potentially deadly. Anyone who's experienced riding one with a motor can tell you trouble's not if, it's when. Losing a limb is an all too real possibility. As the unfortunate subject of this thread found out, cyclists are the crumple zone and when you're on something that well outweighs you...... Dwell on that too long and you'd be a wreck, and the bike's no place to lose your nerve.
Y'all that drive, give 'em room. They can stop and manuever a heck of a lot faster than you can and the sound their body makes as it goes into or under your car.....well, give them room, dammit.![]()
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

Well, maybe if she crashed hard enough to cause herself the excruciating pain of pinching a limb off (which is absolutely terribly horrible) and then jumped back on anyway and rode off while her friends were chasing her down, waving the poor thing's limb around trying to get her attention....
....which, according to the person who found a peach-sized chunk of me stuck to my bike, dealing with another person's misplaced parts is quite traumatic. Funny enough, I'd gotten up and had walked away unaware of missing stuff....
(I am in so much trouble now)
