What about the Terry Scooter capris? They have a light chamois, come in black and gray and look pretty good off the bike, too. I wear them around town to do errands on my refit mtb that i use as a commuter. Not sure about the shorts; I have liners that go under reg. shorts, but the liners are longer than most of my shorts! I also wear skorts or mtb shorts with regular tops that are wicking.
I couldn't ride even 7 miles without a chamois. In fact, last week when i rode 1 mile to our community pond on my commuter bike, in my bathing suit, i was hurting by the time I got there.

The Spinnakers are great for just wearing every day too. You don't really see the thin chamois.

I think a chrome metal basket would be nice on that bike rather than wicker or plastic. Then it would be more like a hip city errand bike than a country-girly bike.

I think we have a definite winner in the Lake shoe & Harlot combo though the sparkles and zebra mentioned do sound interesting.
