Lesson learned: 15 pounds of peaches is a LOT of peaches!!![]()
Wow...DB....were you busy. Those burbon peaches will make you feel warm and fuzzy (pardon the pun) this winter.

I'm not sure this should really be in a "nutrition" category, but I just finished canning a batch of bourbon peaches and four batches of peach jam! I ordered 15 pounds from a nearby orchard, not having any idea how many peaches that was going to be.
What a dumb thing to do on a hot day! Here is the fruit of my labor, minus three jars that I've already given to friends.

No bourbon peaches for me--ick! I make them to give to a friend for Christmas.
No peach pie because I would eat it. One person + one peach pie = too many calories!
Can I be your friend, Martha![]()
I can't have the bourbon peaches but when I was a kid we would always have spiced peaches (store bought) with our holiday meals. I loved those but don't know if they're still sold commercially.
There is no shame in eating a entire pie.
I keep telling myself that.

Every year (well almost every year) I put up a dozen jars of spiced peaches. I almost bought peaches yesterday on my way over to the DC area, but decided they didn't look that good, and really can't do them till next weekend anyway. Definitely not a good project for hot weather.
I don't imagine there are many people left in this world that still do home canning.
Just call me Martha. No really. That's my real name.![]()

I used to do canning and made some nice chutneys. my ill-bred family and their uncultivated taste buds never fully appreciated them![]()

Nice work! Before I know it I'll be canning tomatoes, pears and salsa--we have a garden and three pear trees here. Hopefully by that time we'll have some cooler days so it won't be such a hot sweaty job.
