As Mimi said back labour is very painful but it's not called back labour because of where the cramping is. Back labour is when the baby is coming out head first but he's turned backwards. So instead of having a nice squishy baby face pushing against the inner side of your sacrum (think pelvis/tailbone area) you have the hard bone on the back of the baby's head pushing and scraping on your bones. Not nice. Owwwwwww!!

It was about 5 years later that the SO happened to mention it and described how when his head came out the midwife untangled his cord and I said "Whaaaaat! I didn't know that!" and the fluorescent finally lit up
