Best jersey for high temps

I'm in the market for a summer jersey that will take me through long distance rides (centuries) during peak summer temperatures of 80-110 degrees.

I've settled on this pair of Assos H FI Lady's shorts.

My preferences are white or light colored. I'm not a girly girl, so flowers and the like are out, and I prefer short sleeve or sleeveless for this distance, definitely not long sleeves or tank tops.

I'm leaning towards this Castelli jersey with the procool fabric, but I think I'd be happier with a silky single layer fabric like this. Unfortunately, the inside seams on this jersey were too harsh on my skin.

Do any of you ladies have a favorite summer jersey that makes the heat fairy endurable? I overheat a little easier than most, even after I'm fully acclimated. What fabrics or cuts do you suggest for the best wicking and cooling performance?

I love the Etxe Ondo line for warm weather, either sleeveless or short-sleeve. The silky fabrics fit close & wick well, and the mesh panels give great air-flow to cool. I overheat very easily, & have learned through trial & error to steer clear of all the great-looking jerseys that have sublimated designs. The fabric has to have a tight weave to give sharp outlines to the designs, hence they don't breathe as well & I cook in them. Don't worry about the inside seams bothering, because the finish work all through the line is exquisite.

Aren't those shorts nifty? I would never wear white on the booty portion... way too much yucky sweating in that area that I won't force any other fellow cyclist to stare at! So those were perfect.

Kaola, I didn't think about the design of that jersey impacting it's breathability. I'm glad you mentioned that.

I would love to give Etxe Ondo a try! But so far I've had zero luck finding someone that carries any of their women's jerseys in white or even yellow.

I love the other colors and prefer them when it's cooler out, but for these afternoon July and August rides in TX, the darker colors just aren't the way to go if you can help it.

I'll definitely keep searching though.

Wow, I love the idea of the shorts with white fabric where the sun hits. I'm interested in them, too, but I'm scared that they might be a little too revealing. My husband once tried on a pair of white bibs that left absolutely nothing to the imagination. Does anyone know if that's a problem with the Assos shorts?

I ordered two shirts from Perfomance today. We'll see if either one of them is what I'm looking for.

As far as the white fabric on Assos being too revealing; one of my Sunday group ride members (male) has worn all white Assos on at least one past occasion, and I haven't noticed anything through them that I shouldn't see, even after a pretty sweaty 50 mile ride. Granted I wasn't on the lookout either though.

When I get mine in I'll post about them after I go for a spin.

They are VERY lightweight and breezy and very COOL in the 90's temps.
I got several and I even just cut the sleeves right off of two of them! You don't even have to hem it as the material will not fray when cut. They look real "boss" with the sleeves cut off.
These things are very breezy and cool. No pockets. Great traffic safety color. Wash easily in the laundry. They run a bit large- I usually take a size medium shirt but in these the small fits me fine. They are on sale at the above link! Terry has them as well but at a higher regular price.

but Holabird only has it in small, so I went to Footlocker.com where they had it on sale too in all sizes. The tank has a big wide swath of yellow down the back for great visibility. It's a blinding yellow color in both tops.
The tank is great too, but is a heavier stretchy material (like a bathing suit) and has an inner shelf bra, so nood need for a sport bra underneath unless you are really big. These tanks run snugger than the breezy t's- I take a Large in the tanks and a small in the t's.

I like both of these tops in hot hot weather when biking.

One thing i'd like to point out is for very hot weather - try a good summer/heat baselayer by Craft, Giordana, Pearl. I know it sounds counter intuitive but they exist for a reason. They're made specifically to cool your body down.

Twice a week I ride out of where I work in North Jersey because of the mountains. These kinds of rides are ones where you're going 9 mph or 38 mph and very little in between. This season I started wearing a wicking baselayer during hot days and it really does work. Yes you obviously sweat but you never feel overly hot and I think that is the key to their existence. Geez, now I feel nake if I ever get on the bike without one!

Try the Gore Bike Wear Xenon SS jersey (white, black, and fuschia sold on team estrogen, orange at Terry Bicycles). This jersey is very lightweight with small mesh panels on the sides and a large one on the back. I bought too and wear nothing else right now. I'd have 4 but I don't care for pink and black in the summer is just too hot). Very cool and comfortable on 90+ degree rides.

It's not strictly a 'jersey' but I'd reccommend the white or yellow Canari SPF shirts... VERY light cloth and if you're out or an extended period, the SPF factor may be an added bonus.

Exte Ondo stuff is generally of very high quality, I've found... it *looks* and *feels* very, very nice... but I don't actually own any to really comment...

The Louis Garneau carbon jersey claims to have superior temp management, and to look at it, it's very light, and mostly white... Carbon Ion? I think? I know TE carries it... just not sure of the name atm...

Personally, I'd slap on a TON of sunblock and go for a tri tank with a lot of mesh to it, then just make sure I'm drinking enough that the perspiration and mesh do their respective jobs... i *like* the sugoi tri tanks...

speaking of those white and black shorts; on the recent Seattle to Portland ride i know of 3 different people who got heat rash right at the end of their shorts; their BLACK shorts. There was about a 3-4 hour of very hot sun at midday
and they really got burned!
