Holstein 100 or Tour Of Napa?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

A question for all of you ladies who have ridden both the Holstein 100 and the Tour of Napa Valley...which one would you choose?

I think I'm leaning towards the Holstein, but I have a couple of friends doing the Tour of Napa Valley. However, these two friends ride hybrids and I don't think we'd really be riding together anyway. From what I've read in the Holstein thread, it sounds like a great route. I'm concerned the Napa ride could be kind of hot.

If you had to pick one over the other, which one would it be? There is no way I could do both rides (yet ).

Oh, and I'm planning on the metric route.

    Thanks in advance!!!

If you want to factor this in, there are several of us that ride the metric portion of the Tour of Napa in the fall or when the whim strikes us. The fall is a much nicer time to ride this route. August is OK but it's nicer in the fall, winter and spring. Anybehoobe, we can always plan a group ride on our own.

If you do a search for past group rides, look for "Twist on the Tour of Napa" or something like that. We start in St. Helena instead of Yountville and descend Howell Mtn cuz it's nicer.

I think there's a bunch of TE'ers doing Holstein this year, if that any incentive.

Well I can't decide which I like better, which is why I do both . I think the climbs on Holstein are steeper, and it's generally much cooler than Napa, if not downright chilly. Napa is frequently very hot, and that final 10 or so miles on Silverado into a hot headwind is usually not fun. However, the post-ride meal (and beer!) and music at Napa is more fun than Holstein.

SK makes a good point - you can come do "The Twist" ride in nicer weather, with nicer company , instead of Napa.

Sounds like I oughtta do the Holstein and wait for the superber company in Napa. Thanks, you guys. I really like cows, so I was already kind of drawn to this ride anyway.

Just got my cousin's wedding invitation...guess the date? Yep, the 18th. In Southern California. Gotta talk to the family and find out who is/isn't going. Then I can decide for sure on the Holstein. In the meantime, I think I'll jump over to the Holstein thread and see what you're all doing for accommodations.
