Don't be nervous rabbit- you're going to have a GREAT race. A race that's all your own and all about YOU!!! And when you're finished you're going to come back here, tell us all about it, and we're going to fuss all over you and how awesome you are (because you really are awesome- no matter your times!).![]()

Don't be so nervous, and try to not compare yourself to anyone else, including us here. Learn from some of our silly mistakes, then go out there and see what you can do. I know, easier said than done as I compare myself all the time, but for me, instead of saying, oh, friend A beat me by x minutes, and friend b beat me by y minutes, I look at what my average speed was and what their average speeds were, and see how that gap changes. And you know what, it is changing for the better. My places haven't really changed, but I know I'm getting better and that's what matters. I have definately been last numerous times, especially on the run, but that last place is getting closer to next to last, and is sometimes even there now. And of course, there is nothing wrong with being last in your age group, as no matter where you place, everyone did the same course, and it might have been tougher for us BOPers because we were out there for a longer time than the FOPers. In conclusion, DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE TIMES!!
Good luck, and let us know how you do!!!
Hey... you race your race. Set your goals and go for it.
At my race, I didn't finish first... gosh, ranked for the run I was dead last in my AG. But I crossed the finish line elated, because I raced my race and exceeded my goals. Screw everyone else!
Have fun and meet your expectations, no one else's.
Good luck!
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside thoroughly used-up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!!"
Times are relative. I only look at my times in comparison to what I did before. If this is your first, don't sweat it. Just focus on finishing and having fun. After you've done a few and you will have learned so much, that alone will help your time. But, until then, just have fun. Don't wear a watch.
Good Luck

OK I hear you alpinerabbit - I did the same thing.I was doing the math "OK I can swim 500 in 10 min but I had better add 2 min ...so 12 min . . , transition could be as much as 4 min. Ok if I go really slow on the bike I should be max 50 min, ..... and on and on and on.
hmmmm last years times for this race were . . . . Oh there wasn't any 50+ women entered . . . . and on and on and on
You have done your practice tri - you know what to expect as best you can. Tomorrow will be better because you can get out and practice again. Rest days are tough. "I should be DOING something! ! ! ! "
Now that I have the first one out of the way I am much more "sensible" for lack of a better word about it. I am totally out to improve my weak areas now that I have pinpointed them.
I have set some new goals for the next one, went to muscle pump class and made myself get out and run 2 miles. I AM going to get better on the run ! ! ! !
It's about the journey and being in the moment, not about the destination
