California is different, ours is today (Thursday the 17th).
I couldn't ride into work today - I need the car this afternoon. oh well.

I love the idea of bike to work day, week, month. What gets me are the clueless souls that hit the road because "It's bike to work day!". I saw a number of them this morning, riding two abreast on busy streets or riding against traffic. Saw one guy make a left turn from the proper left turn lane, then proceeded to ride down the street, still in the left lane, next to the center divide. This was on a four lane busy road.![]()
Be safe out there kids!
here in San Diego it's tomorrow, May 18... and they're even ADVERTISING it!!!they're using the Amber Alert freeway signs and it's been up all week on the freeways...
I'm not riding tho as I am doing Tour of San Diego on Sat... it's long with a whole lotta climbing... and my commute is just over 40 miles with 2000ft climbing... don't want to be dead for Sat ride!
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".
Ooops, sorry, I thought it was all of California - perhaps it's just N. Cal or just the Bay Area.

BTWD is usually organized by local coalitions in partnership with the local transportation orgranizations. All the Bay Area counties celebrated today. While I love any energizer station, I wish I worked near our downtown. The City Hall and County Administration center stations started a friendly competition--both had pancake breakfasts, but City Hall closed off a block for the festivities and the county added bacon and sausage to their breakfast.

Unfortunately my town doesn't draw attention to this event at all. We're lucky if they mention it during a 5 second clip on the evening news the night before. Despite that, I'll still be riding tomorrow unless the rain looks too formidable.
