So true... but I'll have to pass on the sushi. Anybody want crawfish?

Yes, please. Send some of them crawdad critters in some yummy etoufee.
PS - Would one of my friends please tell me why I grew up calling them crawdads? From what region did this colloquialism spring? Who calls them crayfish? Deep things to ponder tonight.

Sadie,
I grew up saying "crawdads". My parents were from the south....
Thankyou ladies for your friendship and advise. What a great group of amazing people!

Ah ha! My father's family goes back in Texas pre-statehood. So the crawdads are their fault.

Thank you so much, canuck! We really aren't so bad (most of us, anyway!). And definitely nutty.
I don't suppose you could find a Cajun in your family tree who could make you some etoufee someday?Shipping to Oz might be expensive so maybe you would have to travel over here, tho....then we crazy Americans could meet you!

I grew up calling 'em crawdads AND crayfish... hmm. No sutherner in me, though... everyone in my famdamily is from WI... hmm... The plot thickens.
I'd like to chime in a "hear, hear!" on this forum. I have found friends, sisters, and someone very special through TE. I am ever in awe of the great things that can be achieved by bringing women together.
In Louisiana - they're called crawfish. Up north, we called them crayfish. But then again - we didn't eat them either.
Etoufee is essentially crawfish tails smothered in butter (lots of butter), onions and seasoning. The crawfish "fat" makes it creamy. Very yummy stuff!
And that's a no on the crawfish sushi. Way way way no.
