there aren't any bugs right now, not sure how bad they get in the summer, but i'll let you know. hopefully by summer time i'll be in such good shape i'll just zoom by them and they won't have a chance to get me!

I look forward to your photos. I have a feeling that your perspective is a bit different from most. And congrats on getting back on your bike!

What's the road bike riding up there like? We go up there semi-frequently and have yet to bring the bikes. I bet there is fantastic riding in the summer!!! It's a fun town. I'm kicking myself because I never got to go to Mr. Whitekeys, it was a place that served spam and beer. Our normal hangout, dive as it is, is Humpys.

I look forward to reading about your rides!

I grew up in Anchor-town (well, at least from the age of 13 - 30) and went from riding a truck-bike, to a five-speed then to my first 12-speed. I worked a whole lot harder riding a bike in those days!!!

The bike paths weren't added around Anchorage until the oil money came it, but now there are bike paths everywhere. I remember riding my bike out by East Anchorage high, through the willow trees that used to line the path and experiencing my first "flasher". I imagine that's still something you have to look out for.

Also, I lived out by Diamond High School after I got married and used to take the bike path that ran along Campbell Creek. There was an area that I would occasionally run into (well, not actually RUN into), but run across a cow moose and her calf. When that happened, I would just turn around and head the other way. You really don't want to mess with the moose.

Anchorage does have a ton of stuff to do, although the downtown area is now looking like a big tourist trap to me.

(And the mosquitos are still bad in Anchorage...but not as bad as the Bush)

the bike trails are very nice. a bit icy in places right now, but it just makes it all the more fun.

i agree downtown is seeming like a tourist trap. i avoided town like the plauge during the summer, unless work was paying me to come into town or fly through. this summer will be interesting.

though the bumper sticker that cracked me up the other day was "if they call it tourist season, why can't we shoot them?"
