Use the saddle that you like. The only things you may want to consider is that road saddles tend to be wider and have a long nose. Makes it hard to got off the back of the seat on steep down hills and a long nose can spear your chamois when trying to mount on a downhill. You move around a lot more on a mountain bike so saddle comfort is no where near the problem it is for roadies.Originally Posted by trigurl
You like clips on the road? Stick with them on the mountain. In a fast (ie., panic) stop your feet are going to go with the memorized action and you'll twist your foot to the side. With cages, you MUST pull your foot backwards and if you twist instead? Be prepared to tuck and roll. I personally like to go for style points when I fall. You may want to start with a mtb pedal that has a bit of a platform (like Candies) so you'll have a bit of support if you're not clipped in.
