Yeah only one more week in February and I need 51 more miles and 1 more climb up Diablo to meet my goals for the month. The mileage I'll get no problem. But it's supposed to rain today and tomorrow and next weekend isn't looking so great either.

    Well, I take it back...

I DID scratch up the new road bike--on both handlebars above the brakes. Well, it'll make a good story.

So today I try to get out and had made my first of three planned 5-mile loops when I stop for water to see that my little pack behind my seat was unzipped. No cell phone! Driver's license and multi-use tool still there. I rode back home and there was the cell phone right where I left it on the stairs.

I head back out and, you guessed it...more rain.

Well its kinda comforting to know it isn't just me

This past w/e was cool and very windy we worked on putting electric fence up in our pasture, we have a huge hill that I climbed 3-4 times so that was my work out Sat. plus 5-6 hours of trimming briars and honey suckle off the fence, my arms are still sore. Sun I hit the gym for a killer interval workout on the treadmill and today is my off day, guess what?????? 60's today then back to 40's on Tues. Please tell me March will be better!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was going to start a topic about rainy weekends and beautiful weekdays - but figured people with snow would be put off.

And I have vacation time to use or lose - but can't get away from the job. And I'm a University employee! What's wrong here?

(and we did NOT get president's day off - I think we traded it for Martin Luther King day so that Arizona could get the Superbowl - or some such dumb reason...)

Ready for cheese with my whine :)

OK so yesterday I aborted ride to find the stupid cell phone (belongs to work) and came in early, not much of a workout, and it was windy and spitting rain.

Today? Monday? 75 and sunny. I kid you not. And my husband has the flu so I'm about to take him to the dr, poor guy. February stinks.

I tested out a new bike on Sat. On Sunday it snowed ALL day. In fact, I got a snowday off today. Eight more inches on the ground. I'm starting an aerobics class tonight. Hope that cheers things up...some how I don't think it will

here's wishing everyone WARM DRY DAYS SOON.

I FINALLY smartened up I stuck my mtn bike in my van, just in case it actually is 58 when I get off work today, I will change here are work and drive to the local running/biking park and do a few laps - I only need to ride about 30-40 min today ( I did 65 in the trainer this a.m.). My only problem is my son rode that bike last and the seat is down too far for me I HOPE that I left that wrench in the van so I can fix it!

Its 63, I have my bike and they told me to leave early since I didn't take lunch today or yesterday hehehehehe. I don't usually get off until 5:30, she said leave at 4:00, don't have to tell me twice.

Oops, have to correct that to 65 degrees! Hubby, the wannabe weather reporter, just walked in the door with the car thermometer report.

It was a great ride - considering - the weather was perfect, I had on 2 t-shirts and a vest I didn't even realize until I finished that I had sweated, I ended up riding for an hour all over the place, we have some major hills here and lots of nice riding around town. I was really uncomfortable with the seat so low but got over it, altho my back is very sore today. I thought I had a wrench to change it but I must have taken it out of my van. I even looked around for a garage so I could ask to use one they had, I never found one.

I am not real familiar with the area. I just let my thighs burn! I am amazed at the hills I can climb now! I remember last year how I could barely make it up some of these hills, now I just pedal on up them, it feels good to realize all that work/training has paid off.

I wonder, I have an old Sears mtn bike, very good condition the man barely rode it, I need to change seats, will a road bike seat be ok? I also do some mtn bike races, also should I put toe clips on a mtn bike? I have clipless pedals on my road bike and I use mtn bike shoes, I am not sure I would like clips on the mtn bike. Any suggestions?

Use the saddle that you like. The only things you may want to consider is that road saddles tend to be wider and have a long nose. Makes it hard to got off the back of the seat on steep down hills and a long nose can spear your chamois when trying to mount on a downhill. You move around a lot more on a mountain bike so saddle comfort is no where near the problem it is for roadies.

You like clips on the road? Stick with them on the mountain. In a fast (ie., panic) stop your feet are going to go with the memorized action and you'll twist your foot to the side. With cages, you MUST pull your foot backwards and if you twist instead? Be prepared to tuck and roll . I personally like to go for style points when I fall. You may want to start with a mtb pedal that has a bit of a platform (like Candies) so you'll have a bit of support if you're not clipped in.
