A Ruby Pro-Surprise

Standing next to my Dolce that was on the trainer, was a Ruby Pro Friday night. My husband brought it in while I was in the kitchen. I must have passed it about 10 times going in and out of the kitchen and never noticed it, and then while watching tv I look up and spot 3 bikes (his bike is also on the trainer). I just kept looking thinking something is very odd there, then I notice the color and said what the heck.

My first outdoor ride of the season was yesterday and it was with my beautiful Ruby. I wanted one the day it came out. Don't get me wrong I love my Dolce and it fit me like a glove, I am just shy of 4000 miles on her. But this Ruby rides like a gem (no pun intended). It absorbs bumps which was my biggest thing on getting carbon fiber and the ride is effortless.

However, it is not special occasion or anything so I am like Yellow and feel guilty. I will feel better by insisting on no gifts for me for b-day, mothers day etc. Just a nice bike ride on all those days would make me most happy.

Do not feel guilty. You deserve it. Don't say no presents for your birthday.
Why do women feel guilty if someone gives them something nice???

Wow, that is soooo cool! I'm wanting to upgrade but I don't race - just a recreational rider. I was wondering, the Ruby Pro is such a fantastic bike, do you race? I don't feel like I should buy a Ruby Pro since I don't race...can't seem to justify it to myself. But if other non-racers buy really good bikes maybe I can to.

If you want it, can afford it, and it makes your heart beat a little faster everytime you see her - go for it! You don't need to race to want/need a go-fast bike!

Oh No!!! I do not race, but last year I began doing longer rides including my first century. But I do not think it should matter. You should have the bicycle that feels perfect when you ride it.

Jo Ann--congratulations! I think your hubbby and my hubby are cut from the same cloth. Mine probably would have gone out and just purchased my new bike for me if I hadn't done it by April. He pushed me to get a new bike more than anyone (mostly because I think he was tired of hearing me whine about the pain my old bike caused me).

Wasn't it nice to not get thrown all over the place on your new bike? (I was shocked at how much easier it is to ride no hands on my new bike, and while I think it's due to a combination of factors, I think it's largely because the frame is not aluminum.) That ALONE makes it worth it! But we can feel guilty together, if that makes you feel bettah!

I got out for my first rides of the season as well this weekend. It's going to be beautiful today (and I don't work Mondays) but alas! I am too saddle sore to ride today, I think.

That's what I get for taking several months off.

i don't race and i ride a ruby pro!!!!!!! heck..... i'm not even competitive on century rides, etc..... i'm strictly a RECREATIONAL rider..... i love my ruby!

That is me also Cali....recreational.

I plan on riding more organized rides this year and some club rides. I rode once with them last year and enjoyed it. Because of my time schedule I ride on my own a lot. This year I am Corresponding Secretary and I really should ride with them. My husband said they will think I am a ghost rider.

Yellow, I noticed the difference in going over bumps right away. There is a much different feel from aluminum to carbon. I am not sure about the seat yet. I have always kept the seat that the bike came with. I did feel a little discomfort, plus I work new knickers that I have never worn before. I will give the seat a fair chance with more rides before deciding. The seat is the Jett and I know many ladies here were not happy with it so we will see. For that reason I do not want it to be mind over matter.

You also enjoy your bike to its fullest!!!!!

ya..... i tried to ride on the jett that came on ruby.... it's such a pretty saddle.... looks good... but alas.... i had to change to the dolce seat..... it works..... *sigh*

besides.... like hubby and the lbs guys said.... who sees the seat when you are SITTING on it???????

The Ruby comes in 3 models. Pro, Expert and Comp.
I'm strictly a recreational rider. I plan on doing a century in June as part of the MS 150. I'll be riding my Ruby comp. It's a great ride. Carbon definitely absorbs some of the bumps. The shifting is real smooth. Looking forward to lots of miles with Ruby.

Thread Drift - Gidiup, The Ruby Comp is what I've been looking at. But then I keep thinking that if I buy it in a year or two I'll have wanted the Ruby Pro. I guess what I'm trying to find out is - is it worth the extra money to get the components on the Pro. Are you finding yourself wishing you had gotten the Pro?

Is there a noticible difference between Shimano 105 components and Ultegra/DuraAce? Or will only the truly fit, fast riders know the difference?

Jo-- Enjoy that Ruby. After suffering that broken shoulder a while back, you certainly deserve it. Besides, you need an extra bike in case your Dolce is in the hospital.

How wonderful of your DH, and what a lovely bike he chose for you! That's a great gift, and yes, you deserve it. I remember your shoulder fracture well and know how hard you worked to come back from it. Congratulations and enjoy!
