    Music anyone?

I was just curious how many of you listen to music when you ride? I wear my IPOD when I am here on the base because I ride really early and usually there is not to little traffice. Once I become a big girl and can ride around town and not be scared, I doubt this is a good idea, what do ya'll think?

You should never wear any headphones that block both of your ears. Some headphones are worn inserted in your ears, and they both too much external noise.

Also, it's illegal in most states to wear headphones while operating a vehicle.

That said, I wrap the earbuds around my helmet straps and turn up the volume. I can make out what song it is, but it doesn't interfere with hearing external noise - it's just loud enough so I can tell what song is playing - barely make out the words, but the beat is enough to be heard.
For 3 days, I get to part of a thousand other journeys.

I don't own an iPod, but if I did, I would not use it while riding my bike. It's too important to be able to hear what's going on around you. Sometimes I don't hear a car as it is until it's right behind me. I've also been suprised by dogs, small children, other riders, etc.
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.

The subject has been beaten to death many times, and it's never pretty. To summarize, there are those that think it's nonsense (or simply illegal) to listen to any music in headphones while riding a vehicle (i.e. a bike) on the road or bike path, and others who do it with or without a conviction to be right about it.

    Please do a search...

That sounds like a GREAT idea. I only wear one ear piece and it's very low, I can hear anything approaching me.

I dont know, I think it's dangerous to ride in the street, but yes, I think any time you ride with the 'phones in you run the risk of missing something. However, the last two rides in teh park I used my ipod on very low. I put it on when I get to the park and stand near people talking, and if I can still hear them talking I know it's low enough. HOWEVER...I don't want to wear the 'phones b/c I do think they block sound that could mean life or death.

So my question is...can anyone recommend a little radio you can put on your bike somewhere? This way you can hear everything around you.
