Gawd, Trek, if I didn't have a job and all I'd just fly down there an' help with all the mz-fixit stuff. oh, the things we give up in life to be practical!

Kit, thanks but let's not ruin a good friendship by working on a condo shall we? You know anyone who likes their contractor/carpenter once they get done? I don't

But yes, oh the things we could all do and places we could see if we didn't have jobs and such. Fie on being a grown-up.

Queen, CWR, The in-person Ikea experience is highly overrated, huge ungainly store, be happy they don't have one.

Their herring in sour cream and Swedish meatballs available near the checkout line, those are good.

Avoid the crowd and parking lot, get the catalog, shop online, they deliver!!

TreKnot - I love to paint and I'm a pretty decent carpenter. Anything I can help with just speak up. Even just measuring, and remeasuring, and remeasuring... Um, just don't ever ask me to wallpaper. My Mom still gets palpitations from my last adventure. Wait, I won't do carpet again either. I swear, my knees hurt for a year.

Oh, I looooooove Ikea. I like to roam around and sit on the chairs, bounce on the beds, check out all the little kitchen gadgets, click on all the lamps... and then just get some meatballs/sauce and head home. (Hey Jen, they've got Lingonberries!!!!)

I'm still married to mine. Wanna borrow him for a few days this summer? We'll be flying over to watch you and UK ride in to LA. Maybe he could do a bit of cabinetry work when we're back up in NoCal? He's slow, though, so not much would be finished. He measures and draws and plans for days before cutting and nailing, and meditates over the tricky bits (like moldings around corner cabinets) for hours. Which is why our kitchen looks so gooooood.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

Are you sure you're not married to my husband? That sounds just like him. It must have taken him 5 days to put the 6 or so tiles next to the toilet cause he wanted it just a certain way!

Uh. Yeah. I take the zen approach to decorating/building. If it doesn't match up right? Plane it down. Use filler. *shrug* It ends up exactly the way it's 'supposed' to. ... but everything is 'supposed' to be just a liiiiittle bit different 'round me.

oh, so many things you don't have; gridlock, traffic jam in "the maze" any time they have a sale .... we feel so bad. will trade you for wildlife, peace and quiet ....

Kit, are you sure you're not the gal who tiled my bathroom? "tiles schmiles, these boarder/edge tiles can go .... oh, just about anywhere I want like here in the middle, just add more grout" very creative

I think that's called a "chair rail". Can't get up the energy to go to wikipedia to check that, but I think that's what it's called.

That would explain all of the strange, strange dreams I had, heading to Cali with flowers in my hair, jeans and birks, only to... um... tile a lady's bathroom.

Queen, we're not missing *anything* not having IKEA IMO. Yukky stuff.
Crate & Barrel, now, I'd like to see a nice outlet tucked in behind the Meijer they're going to put up on Philo & Windsor...

A Crate & Barrel and a Trader Joes and I'd be tickled pink!

Yes, it's a chair rail. We got rid of ours in the dining room during the Christmas holiday kitchen repaint. So happy with the change!

Colour is great! Don't be shy with it. Choose colours that set the mood you want, and that have enough brightness you don't need to have the pale washed out colours....
