Do you know the original color of your cleats? Silver or brown?

The front of the multi release cleats is more tapered than the single release (but I suppose that doesn't help you much if you only have one set).

I don't have the shoes that have my multi release ceats here - but I think they have a little two directinal arrow on them (I'll check when I get home tonight)

I may be wrong but I think it means "if I do anything but pedal it releases, if I sneeze it unclips". It's what I have, very easy to get in....and out of the clips It releases if you turn your heel out...or in .

Mine are SH55. I have not found anything that releases as well. That's what I brought on the Ride to Redhook because I knew it'll come out of any pedal.

mimi - you're just going clipless now, right? I'd get a set of multi release, I think the learning curve is easier. (I have multi's on my shoes too)

Thank you. I will do that.
Thank you. I wrote to SHeldon Brown and that's what he said too. I didn't know there was more than 1 type.
