    Detailed in the ode below.

    Goodbye, Old Friend

Today, your last day with me
We walked through the mud and snow
All the while I could feel you changing
The time had come, I know

I remember when I first saw you
Hanging so quietly on the wall
A regular waist, and not “bootcut”
I understood you, and heard your call

I brought two of you home that day
And placed you happily in the drawer
Finally! Jeans that fit! But oh!
I really should have purchased more...

    I wore you everywhere
    We traveled far and wide
    But with every single washing
    Your threads just slowly died

    I mended and patched
The best that I was able
But alas! Even you could not survive
Though you are a rather expensive label!

I lost your sibling in January
On a cold but beautiful day
I bent over to pick up some snow
And the pocket and butt ripped away

And now you are headed to the rag pile
It fills me with complete and utter despair
    I pretended I didn’t feel it
    But yes, it was there

A small rip on the pocket tack
It’s actually been there a while
    But today it opened completely
After I’d walked about a mile

    In my quest for replacements
    I’ve purchased many other jeans
But none of them fit like you
And they all seem prone to creating “scenes”

    So goodbye, old friend
I’ll miss you terribly, it’s true
If I could only wear my Hind Munich pants to work
Then I wouldn’t be so blue.

    I love it!

I'm attempting to kill the pain with a fine 2001 Madrona Zinfandel. I might have to move to port, though. It's pretty bad (the situation, not the wine).

I had a momentum catch in my throat also, until I remembered the good news. At least it better still be good news.

Snif! I so relate! (and that was just beautiful *dabs eyes* just beautiful!)

I felt like that when Levi stopped making women's Levi 560's. Then I learned that they were just the same as men's Levi 560's and the world was filled with sunlight and birdsong again.

I hope you find replacements for your beloved jeans!
