I think Trek would make an excellent co-mom.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

This whole circus about that poor self-abusing woman is so sad and lame.

Today's headlines happened to be positioned right next to each other in the "entertainment news" webpage:

    Battle Over the Body
    and
    Beyonce's Bangin' Body in Bikini

The first article concerning the battle over who gets to have former Playmate Anna Nicole's now slowly decomposing body to bury.
The second article about singer Beyonce's bikini pictures on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Apparently a woman's body is a hot commodity whether it's alive or dead.

It is unbelievable to me how pathetic and distorted our country's culture is when it comes to women's bodies. Whatever happened to women as whole human beings?- are only their bodies worthy of marketing these days?
So sad. And what kind of message does all this send to young people?

It's a truly screwed up society where the absolute worst thing one girl can say to another is "you're fat" and the worst thing one boy can say to another is "you're gay".

It's up to us, the adults, to change this. We have to stop obsessing about our weight and focus on health, we have to let people know it's NOT ok to say "that's so gay" when referencing something negative. We have to set the example that treating each other with kindness and respect is the expected behavior.

I work with teenagers often, and I'll hear them say "gay" as a pejoritive (generally meaning "stupid"). A couple times I've said "No, *I'm* gay, that's 'stupid'." Seems to work nicely.

Sknot doesn't let his friends use "gay" like that.

Nearly my entire childhood and teen years I was called FAT. I hated valentine's day as a child as I got all the UGLY valentines with hippos, elephants etc. I had it pushed in my face if a new person started to befriend me that if they wanted to be able to be friends with the "IN" crowd they wouldn't talk to me.
I was put on diets from a very EARLY age and while I was chunky in 3rd and 4th grade, being called fat all the time, only made me want to eat more for comfort. I am indeed FAT now, but growing up when Twiggy was today's Kate Moss, THIS was considered FAT at age 16
and even by today's warped standards THIS is considered PLUS SIZE at a size 16
I have news for society THIS is FAT and I'm glad I don't look like THAT any more. I'm still FAT, but healthier and working on it.
I'm waiting to make that dress into a JERSEY and carry the photo with myself when I ride to remind myself where I DON'T want to go again! I also show it to people to show it CAN be done WITHOUT fad diets, pills or surgery...
    Sorry to hijack the thread..
Don't think of it as getting hot flashes. Think of it as your inner child playing with matches

I agree with the previous statements and add a little as well...
I look up to my mother and grandmother, who both had worked hard to get respect in fields dominated mostly (but not fully) by men as well as working against other adversities. Knowing all the hard work the women in this country have done to achieve respect as humans, business people, intelligent people, mothers, with the ability to care and work hard, it's hard for me to grasp the media's portrayal of women as sex symbols and that alone. This also goes along another communities that have reversed into what they fought against.
Ok, off my soapbox (for now at least)
