This was one of the most moving things I've read on this thread.

It's also one of the things I love most about my dh/so/bf: he manages to "do the right thing". See, I even have to put it in quotation marks, but he truly and simply believes in doing his duty. He follows his conscience, and doesn't make a fuss about it. Which may sound kind of boring but is a rare and precious trait.

There are many, many things I love about my husband, obviously, or we wouldn't be together after over 21 years of marriage....but one thing that is especially lovable is the many things he does to make my life easier. He is retired and I work full-time, so he does a lot around the house so we can have fun and spend time together on weekends rather than just doing chores and errands all the time, as we had to when we were both working. This weekend his parents are coming for a visit, and he did ALL the cooking for their visit already so that I wouldn't have to stress about it at all.

    What a gem!

Ok. About 2 years ago, Buffalo NY, visiting DH's son who is in college there.
We're driving around with said son, passing lots of old dingy warehouses (seemed to be a lot of those in Buffalo), and we drive past this place. "TURN AROUND!!! GO BACK!!!" I shout. DH obediently complies, and we pull up in front of the factory. I hand son the camera and DH and I pose for a few pix while son rolls eyes. DH explains to me that the nipples made there are probably STEEL nipples. (me picturing some Madonna/dominatrix bustier here) then further explained they were for industiral use. (gee, I guess SO!!)

I had to resurrect this thread, as something occured to me last night...

We did not do anything for V'alentines day except have my mom over for dinner as she was alone. We did not exchange presents or anything--we do things for each other on a daily basis, spend alot of time together, and have a loving relationship, but my DH just doesn't do special occasions. It used to bother me alot, but after 16 years, it is just normal for us.

BUT, at 11:00 last night, my veterinarian husband stripped down to his t shirt in our barn (get your mind out of the gutter...!!) in 5 degree temps, and did a rectal exam on my really old pony, released gas from his belly with a needle (really!!) tubed him with water and literally saved his life. He never complained or crabbed - he did it because it was the right thing to do for this creature that I love....

Can you top that for a present????

All I can say Laura is:

WOW - thats a good man

Altho I of course am partial to my man being the BEST of the best, I don't think I could see him doing any rectal anything to one of our dogs............

Laura, I'm sincerely glad that your pony is doing great.

I think that's a therapy that would fix just about anything...

You are definitely married to a REAL MAN! I'm challenged to new standards of accomplishment.

You should have seen my sense of accomplishment the first time that I bled air from the power steering system of my red car...Boy, I had no idea!

My Mr.Rotten is the bestest in so many ways. I feel like we were meant to be together, and so many of the things we have been through have brought us closer together. Yes, he learns life's lessons as they come, believes in karma, has a very strong sense of the right thing to do, will fight to protect his family, practices random acts of romance, and gets this silly grin on his face when I'm kicking butt in a mountain bike race, when I'm hitting the heavy bag really hard or when I've kept up to his crazy fast pace on the snowshoes. All of that, and he'll still hold my hand when I'm scared of the next medical test.

One time I sent a silly email out to my email friends asking them for one word that describes me. His was so fantastic....it was "forever".

And when he was super stressed out last year when we were apart and he was trying to do the finish work on the house all by himself, I emailed him butterflies, and he played along.....asking where the heck all these butterflies came from....I can barely see the walls, etc. I loved that! Just like I love him.

Yup, we are all pretty sappy here, aren't we. Yay us!

Hugs and huggy butterflies all around,
    ~T~
