PayPal Phishing email warning

I'm posting this here as many of us use PayPal for transactions here at teamestrogen.com as well as many ohter sites for cycling purchases. I received a phishing email this evening saying that my account had been blocked that I needed to "log in" to verify my account.
I went immediately to Paypal.com logged in and saw No problem in my PayPal account. The link in the email sent me however to a DIFFERENT site trying to phish my information. I have reported this and sent a copy of the email to PayPal. I hope this will be ok'd as a warning to others to be aware there is phishing expedition going on for Pay Pal users information.
Be careful out there.

Mary, I got this email also. I forwarded it to spoof@paypal.com and received an email back that yes, it was phishing, as so many of these emails are. Of course, this was about the 10th or 15th email I have gotten like this, supposedly from Paypal, all slightly different, so I didn't buy it for half a second.

The key is, never click on a link in an email to go to a site where you must log in; instead, type the normal URL in (i.e. www.paypal.com) in your browser and log in that way.

Obviously at least a few folks fall for these phishers or they wouldn't keep doing it!

I've gotten this email as well. The thing that's disturbing is that it always seems to arrive after an actual Paypal transaction (makes you think the Phisher is from within Paypal).

Yeah, I buy and sell on Ebay frequently (and use Paypal lots) which is probably why I get so many of these. I get a lot of pfishing emails proporting to be from Ebay as well. Some are from supposed "buyers" demanding that I mail their "stuff". The first one of those freaked me out until I looked more closely and realized I hadn't even sold that buyer anything! And of course eBay confirmed that they were fraudulent as well.

the first thing to do is use common sense. I get these emails on accounts which are not even connected with my paypal account.
Remember, if you are ever concerned, open up a new window and check your paypal account. and delete the stupid email. These have been around for years
sometimes they even have typos and stuff.

another thing to do is to "view full header" or "view source" and you will see that the actual addresses these emails come from have NOTHING to do with paypal or ebay.

The Paypal scam is an old one. The keep trying, don't they? One of the newest scams is 'Comcast'....threatening to cease service if you don't ante up with...(gasp) your SS number among other things. Many of the words are misspelled...and the grammar is atrocious. Duh.

The phishing on behalf of banks is becoming legendary.

I've gotten that one. And several from "Bank of America". Those are scary because they use all the right logos and the domain even displayed as bankofamerica.com. I'm sure there are naive people who get suckered.

I've even gotten these kinds of emails from banks that I don't bank with. Duh-uh! I guess they just send out a whole lot of them and figure they'll sucker in somebody. It just makes me so angry!

You know what's disturbing about these "phishers" is I even get "BANK OF AMERICA" emails and I'm an Australian.

They're totally random.

I get at least one of these a day. Never, ever type your ebay or paypal password in email. Never open ebay or paypal from a link, either. Always type the address in. I always forward it to spoof@ebay or spoof@paypal. With ebay, you should always do correspondence through "my messages". I check the box where you can hide your email address, also. You can see if a mail is from ebay as it will have your full name at the top, NOT your user ID, along with going to my messages. If it has your user ID it is definately phishing.

You shouldn't click on the link in the email either. I used to think it was fun to type in fake user ids and watch the addy and figure out the website it went through before the fake email page, but with so many trojans and spyware that record keystrokes, that isn't a good idea either.

I guess a good rule of thumb: Never type sensitive info in email. passwords, cc#s, etc.
