ow ow ow. Well, nothing for it now but to use the next two months well. Walking helps rebuild those abs, start off slow and easy, add distance, speed and stairs gradually. And how about using the time to find out what was causing pain. Get to the cause so you can do without the pain meds. There really are no pain meds that are safe for the stomach over time, and your stomach lining is probably still overly sensitive now so that even doses well within maximum might still be too much.
Best get well wishes!
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.
Holy wow, girl. Up until the point where they found your ulcer with an ultrasound scan, I had the same thing happen to me in early November. We still don't know what my problem was (is), but thankfully the pain has only recurred 4 more times since then, and at much less intensity. Needless to say, however, in the ER I was introduced to the wonders of Dilaudid via IV (thank God).
I am glad that they were able to help you with some surgery, though I certainly sympathize with how frustrating it must be to take 2 months off from your training! (Especially as I sprained my ankle 3 weeks ago!) Good luck, hang in there.
Han,
Get well. Best wishes.

Thanks again for the kind words...
as for the cause of ulcers, they are caused primarily by a bacteria. for most people it layes dormant but when the conditions are right, like with ibuprofen or other factors like smoking (i dont smoke), then ulcers can form.
i didnt even know i had an ulcer. the ONLY symptom i had, in retrospect, was a couple of little tummy cramps after eating. so it came with a super vengeance on new years eve.
i had followed the directions for the pain killers, but i guess prior to the ibuprofen i took an apsirin based medication, i wasn't taking the two to gether though, but i ran out of one and went to the other, and i guess that did the trick. i am smaller than average height (5'2", 117 pounds before surgery), so maybe the dosages were too high for me. i just weighed myself, and i lost 3-4 pounds since last week, that was one HECK of a detox, i'll tell you that!
i tossed out pretty much any over the counter meds in my cabinet, including cold and flu stuff. oddly enough, at the pharmacy today there was a HUGE display for advil. part of me wanted to knock it over.
I have learned a lot, and will take the time to relax and catch up on my movie rentals.
Smile
