ONe more q for ya'll...investigating car rentals in the US..if i want to rent a car in the US..is there anyone else besides Avis & budget? There doesn't seem to be much other than 4 door cars..?

    c
There are also: Budget, National, Enterprise, Alamo, and maybe some other more or less national companies I'm forgetting, like Rent-A-Wreck (probably best forgotten?). And then there are local companies, such as dealerships that have a rental office. I know that locally back in my home town the Toyota dealership often had the best deal, but only if we were picking up and turning in right there, not if we needed to pick up and/or drop off at the airport, and not if we needed a one-way rental.

Our town went smoke-free on 1/1 so last night we went out with friends and did an old fashioned pub crawl to show the bar owners our support (they were all positive they'd go bankrupt over the ban)...I am now in possession of an old fashioned hangover.

*grumph* while I'm very happy for the couple next-door, it's getting *really* hard to sleep. do you *know* what kind of dreams that inspires?!

...oh! hey! it's 6am. I can see about a couple more hrs of sleep.

I just spent a most pleasant night in freaky warm weather sleeping in my hammock in the back yard. Swinging in the breeze, listening to rain on the tarp overhead. No better way to sleep. It was 60F and almost too warm. Though once when I work up and moved, my noise spooked an animal that sounded to be about 10 feet away and took off. It sounded like a deer - saw one in the yard last week. And I think some other animal must have peed in one of my shoes. The shoes (Crocs-type rubber clogs) were together and well under the tarp, so I don't think the rain got them wet. And only one was wet, and my wet sock smelled like pee when I took it off.

That last sentence was hard to interpret when using the definition of couple from the first sentence. Try a hammock in the backyard next time, Kit. Good sleeping, I guarantee (depending on where your back yard is, I suppose).

Deb, that's so cool. I love being outside in warm/dry enough weather, and in the summer I am happy to sleep outside on a good night. I have camped in enough places to fully appreciate what can happen overnight too (rain, animals, temperature changes etc). It's good to hear it didn't get too cold. Is your hammock a traditional rope one or do you have one of the very neat backpacking hammocks? I have been looking at those as a nice to have someday, so backpacking could be even lighter. Over the past 2 summers I have only kayak camped or drive-in camped, no carrying the tent! I also yurt camped in winter a few years ago (during elsewhere mentioned Long Trail snowshoeing). That was probably some of the most fun camping I've ever done, due to it being such a unique experience. It actually bugs me that most of the state parks close on labor day - when September is probably the best month of our year for outdoors fun! Even early October is usually pretty darn nice too! But I know 'the world' forgets about outdoors fun after labor day, and that's nice in other ways (so nice to kayak and be one of the only ones out there).

But yes, being able to sleep outside at this time (not in the cold) of year is very remarkable!

Sorry about that Kit. Hotels can get a bit loud sometimes. My thought on this sitch is... If you are being woke up at 6:00, you obviously didn't drink enough last night. Go back to the bar and then go back to bed. Of course, don't drink so much that you lose those dreams. Drunken dreams of drunken debauchery are the best.
Today is the big move in day and I wish you the best of luck. If you need anything, please call hon. (((Kit)))

Welcome GA!! Glad to have you aboard!! *slowly, slowly the PA girls are taking over* We finally are starting to see a slow down in our ER. Hope it is getting better for you guys as well. Tough year for respiratory stuff. Wow.

Deb - you are too cool. I remember those days. I used to love to do that, sleep in a hammock in the backyard. No one got it though. *sigh* So I gave it away cuz of the friction and misunderstandings it caused. (Should have given away the S.O. instead.) Sorry about the crocs too. Jeez. Try hanging them on a sheppard's hook or something next time.

Hey CC, I've always liked Hertz rentals, FWIW. So, what's the final plan on Ian's b-day? Indy?

Knot - I don't know where everyone else went, but I was, um, yeah... ok, forget it. Next subject.

((((((CWR)))))) So glad the new med worked better hon. Take it easy and come back and play real soon, k? Love ya.

So, it's time to get out of the house and do my running around. Getting the bike adjusted today and sending out some packages to my SS and others. Going to look at getting some type of step side thingy for my Jeep or I'm gonna seriously throw my back out trying to get my Mom in there. 4'11". Phew.

Anyway, lots to catch up on. See y'all later. Be safe. (I mean that. )

My hammock is homemade base on the Speer design (www.speerhammocks.com) with my own design of overbag/bottom insulation and bug netting. I could send you pics or answer questions if you are interested. The hammock and tarp are very easy sewing projects. The hammock is one piece of 1.9 oz uncoated ripstop nylon with knots in the ends to attach webbing for tree straps.

I am spending waaaay too much time on YouTube. All those 80's videos I didn't get to see (or only saw once or twice)

All those anti-Imperial (U.S.) videos! Is anyone making those these days? Or it the rest of the world too cowed now to speak up?

(I'm thinkin' "Guns in the Sky" and "Wild Wild West" and such)

I'm all sniffy with a scratchy throat today. I hope it's just allergies, I don't want to be sick.

Time to get moving and get in the shower. I have a new quest - trying to find All Laundry Detergent - Powder form, for my mom. I've been to 4 stores...wtf? Of all the bizzaro things for stores to run out of....

Tonight I'm making pork tenderloin. Haven't decided how I'm going to cook it yet, I'm thinking of a steak diane type sauce. Roasted sweet taters, because I love them, and green beans. Although I've been craving brussel sprouts lately...

    Happy moving day Kit!

    Happy recovery time CWR!

Happy Happy Joy Joy to everyone!

Wild Wild West was anti-imperial? Huh. Whoda thunk it - I associate it with cowboy dancers at Pride day here in SJ

Knot- I am so glad your phone is back on. When can you switch to Cingular? Maybe we could get a TD discount?

Trek-you crack me up, thank you. Remind me to talk to you before calling any customer reps.

Tygab-Maybe your inner wild youth is out partying with mine inner wild youth?

GA-Welcome! I have heard wonderful things about you. You have been reading TD, then you know we embrace slightly twisted humour.

CC-let me know how the Australian version of Fig Newtons are. My family is addicted to Tim Tams. As for renting cars, we have always had good luck with Hertz.

Queen-sounds like you had a wonderful night! We went smoke free here as well, thank goodness!

Kit-Sorry about the night, you should have told me, you know my inner b*tch would have loved to phone the front desk. (insert evil laughter) It is Moving Day!! Whooo Hooo! *hugs* Please call, you know, just reminding...
Oh your boxes are touring the US, now they are visiting KY.

(((((((((((CWR)))))))))))))glad the new pain meds are working. Call anytime! We miss you. *HUGS*

Deb-you must live close to me-same freakish warm weather. We missed breaking the record by 1 degree. Your night sounded quite relaxing. Hmmmm. Sorry about the pee smell.

X-yep should have dumped the SO. Do not let someone suppress you! You are wonderful just the way you are (everyone sing with me). Buy a hammock and sleep in it all you want.

No doubt my addled brain missed a few people and events. It was not intentions. I slept late and am still on my first cup of coffee.
