    Question Question-Mimi?

Any idea why my insurance company would pay to lay new carpet in my Living Room, Dining Room, and Family Room, yet refuse to pay for the padding?

How much is padding, dare I ask?

I think Trek put more RAM into her 10 year old Mac and has it running OS 10. She would know exactly what she had done, but it works peachy!

Nah, just took it to the LMS (local Mac shop) they stuffed goo gobs more memory into it, installed new OS .... I still have OS 9 and can run it in the background for some application. But OS 10.2 (not OS 10 which is not compatible with SBC DSL) is waaaay more internet friendly.

Jennifer, no I have no idea.

Have you thought about Pergo or Pergo-like substance instead? I need to do something about the horrific greenish blueish old yucky carpet I have.

Knott, go with your gutt. Mine would tell me to keep the job of course and quietly get the resume out there, do some interviews....nothing going on here people I'm just wearing a suit to work today nothing to see here move along....then options include when not if you get a better offer you could say "I have this offer will you meet or beat it for me to stay?" or "see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya"

You're not the captain so you don't have to go down with the sinking ship and it sounds like some of the rats are leaving to stretch this line way too far.

Good morning TE TD, I'm off to walk the dog now.

What is Apple up to now, 10.4? 10.6? I have OS 10 "Tiger", I think the newer OS 10 is "Jaguar" or "Leopard" or some other big cat and is available soon.

I want an OS 10 "Maine Coon!"

Edit: I just poked around and found out that OS 10 "Tiger" is the 10.4. I still want OS 10 "Maine Coon"... naaw, "Six-Toed Maine Coon." Someone get me Steve Jobs' phone #, I need to have a talk with him.

Too much. But it shouldn't surprise us, the British treated the Irish the same way, and then they came here and wiped out the native americans (and we picked up where they left off!)

Did the insurance go with what the cleaners suggested? Maybe they didn't put in the padding cost with the estimate.
Either way, you can probably get away with replacing the padding only where the bad spot was. Padding is very cheap compared to carpet. Just take a small chunk into a local store and have them give you the same thickness and some tape to connect the pieces if you are laying the padding yourself. (Don't use ordinary tape for this.) A lot of times, they have remnants of padding as well as carpets. Lots cheaper.
Obviously if you can get them to kick in for the padding, get the best you can handle in the budget allowed. Contractors put the thinnest stuff they can find under there and all it does is help ruin the carpet quicker. Better padding and a slightly cheaper carpet will look/wear better than the opposite way around for much longer. I'm not saying go out get a knit-your-own-carpet-kit or anything like that. But you can save mucho dinero if you go down a step or two in carpet and up in the padding.
I recarpeted most of my Mom's house a few years ago for xmas. In the living room/dining room areas, I put in a thicker padding that has a waterproof plastic coating on one side (side up) so if the grandkids spill, it only soaks the carpet and can be cleaned up very quickly. I put in thinner, regular padding back the hallways and in the bedrooms because they don't have the same use-frequency and needs.

Just some things to think about. Good luck Jen.

uhoh, Knot, that is really scary. I know how crappy things can get with the threat of layoffs over your head. (where I work, I've lived through this 5 different times now) Have you been to Eric's clinic lately?

Thanks X. We do not have much choice in the carpet. (from one place I have 4 samples). Next place should be here shortly. It must be the same quality (and price) of the one we are replacing. Which I understand. Yes, we could pay the difference if that was an option for us, but those darn kids. We need three quotes and so far the two said you do nort lay carpet without padding. One p[lace looked at our padding and laughed, confirming what I thought about it as well. Time will tell.

Don't you tease me AG. I'm gonna hold you guys to it! OK, it's in my planner, will firm up as we get closer I couldn't think of a better bday present than you gals at that race!

BMo3 - X hit it on the head with the padding. Hopefully it will all be done soon so you can enjoy that new carpet smell!

Knot - sounds logical from a company perspective, but I like Trek's idea on getting the resume updated and start looking if you're that nervous or unhappy there. Of course, she's probably hoping you'll find something closer to her, so hey, there's an opportunity!

Knot- Thank you for that reading. It seems pretty right-on, actually.

    BMo3- I 2nd X on the padding thing.

Today's lookin' up! Maybe I should have an impromptu TE moving party this Saturday! (Then again, maybe not. I probably own enough little things that I'd rather people not know about! )

I guess it's referring to the gay marriage legislation changes proposed in MA, but not sure why it needs to be referred to all hush hush like. It certainly very much affects my family too, and we are all watching it with interest.

The Boston Globe is putting out an optimistic slant today. It passed by 12 votes (needed only 25%). As of tomorrow, 7 of those votes are gone due to elections. So just need to change 5 votes by later this year or early next when they vote again. There was a 2/3 majority against the ban. I'm figuring that all the legislature needs to do is pass a law saying that they will issue no marriage licenses unless they can issue them to everyone equally.

I have no heat in my house this morning for some reason. The thermostat is set for 22 but it's only 16. Better today than tomorrow when I'm gone to Edmonton for 4 days. Cross your fingers that it's nothing that can't be fixed today.

I still have OS 3.9 I'd like to upgrade but don't want to spend any money.
