I will give them a call tomorrow, since today is a holiday. Hopefully Kit's idea works or Service master works cheap.

I thought owning your own home was to be fun. I was lied to. I have had my front lawn totally dug up to replace sewer lines, a failed washer, then a failed dryer. My A/C gave out during one of the worst heat waves, so A/C and furnace had to be replaced. Then the garage door gave out, and lest I forget the squirrels living in my attic the first winter. *sigh* Oh yes, we have only lived here 4 1/2 years.

    I am exhausted.

Edited: I forgot the replacement of the garbage disposal and my oven is broken. X and Kit can vouch for that one.

We will not even discuss the roof and fence.....

I agree about the "lied to" part...we owned our house for 4 years and put in all new carpeting, new furnace, new central AC, new roof, new garage, new insulation...not sure when the whole "this is how a regular person builds wealth" was supposed to happen.

"Oy" definitely the operative word. Nice one!

    stands, takes bow.

Queen, I think "the regular person builds wealth" this way if, and only if we turn the hovel at the top of a housing boom.

    Whoops, missed that, too late.

That's cool, I like 'em loud. Let's see how long this stays .....

    good things about owning:
    * you may be happier around tax time if only then.
    * don't like the color? paint it, got a funky wall you wanna move? take it out! bike rack installed on the roof? go ahead. Whoops, that was supporting wall kaboom/crash/bang.
    * want pets? no landlord to say you can't have a dog. I got "custody of the dog" so this was critical.
    * If my landlord installed dual pane windows (which I badly need) he'd raise the rent, when I install, get a tax deduction and lower heating bills.
    * If and only if one sells everything you put into the house not only might raise the sale price but gets deducted from the profit. (note: I am not a lawyer or realtor, check on that one).
    * you might, just might be in a better financial state because you may be able to roll non secured debt (the car, the visa card you charged that bike too) into the loan thus...tax deductable! (again, this is just me, check with a pro).

    Bad things:
    * Plumbing problems, dinking trees...can't just call land lord to fix.
    * less flexibility moving, you're a homeowner, established, it's complex. Much more to do.
    * roof needs fixing and you want vacation? Land lord does it. Own a home and vacations could be spent on the roof.
