    Feeling Grinchy

I'm putting away the Christmas ornaments. I feel like the month of December pretty much sucked this year. I'm ready for a new month.

Anyway... most of the ornaments on our tree were handmade, a few were special ones from Hallmark. Thom's parents have given us Hallmark ornaments for years. We could do a tree all in Star Trek.

I'm feeling pretty crumudgeonly. Why does Hallmark think some of these things represent Christmas? Remember when light and motion ornaments first came out? I remember thinking, "Oh these are so cool." Now I look at them and think, "What a bunch of crappy resin." Who decided plastic was good?

Here's to a joyous New Year and may the police catch the cretins who are prowling my neighborhood. I need to move on.

Aw, sorry V! It's okay to feel grinchy, December wasn't a great month, was it.

Is the rest of your neighborhood aware they need to be on high alert? That's how our bums were caught; someone didn't recognize a car, and took down the license plate.

Yeah they are aware. Our neighborhood watch block captain is really good. We've been doing some patrolling at night. Another house was hit sometime between Thursday and Saturday. The MO was a bit different. Our burglars were very neat. That house was vandalized a lot.

I'm convinced one of them lives right next door to us in the apartments that went in about five years ago. The funny thing is... we're the only ones in the neighborhood who supported the apartments. But video shows them driving in and out at least three times, through a gate mind you, while they robbed my house.

I know in the grand scheme of things, this really isn't important. But I want the mother ****ers to get what is coming to them. BTW swearing is not normal for me.

    Bah, bug and hum.

Love Olive, the Other Reindeer showed it to my class for our holiday party. We had hot chocolate and doughnuts. The class loved it and it was mostly a surprise. Our schedule said Extra Math (long division is tough!). Ahhh... the shock on their faces when they realized they were not getting more math homework.

    Now that IS important stuff.

Its Ok to feel crappy...you really had a bad year. Hopefully this year will be much better for you. I think most people get a bit crabby after the Holidays are done...January is such a boring month...raining ,and snowy. Get on your red bike and climb a big hill, and then come home and eat several cookies. That's Mz. Suzanne's cure for crankiness. When you start training for your tri, you can fit a run inbetween the bike ride and the cookies. Keep your chin up, V. You're a good soul and things will get better.

I did mention I loathe running, right.

I made two batches of cookies today for our neighbors who took care of my little cat when we were away and secured our garage.

No bike ride yet. Lots of cookie eating.

These are some pretty good cookies too. I made oatmeal raisin and peanut butter cup.

Actually I have to assume the oatmeal raisin are good. Blech...oatmeal cookies. But they are my neighbor's favorite.

Truly my life is pretty good.

Every now and then I just get so angry at these people and focus on what they took from me - not the stuff - the joy in my home, peace of mind. They screwed up my birthday, both the actual day and the present. I am not good at letting go of that kind of crap. The birthday thing really rankles. 40 has not been good.

But I have a wonderful, supportive husband, a cute, old cat and terrific friends. I am healthy and strong. I love my job this year. A fantastic class helps. Time will eventually make this just an unpleasant memory.

For now I'll just blather on. It's like pus coming out of a wound. EEEEWWW!!!

Hang on to that thought, V. You'll need to keep it to stay sane and regain your happiness!

I've had a year kind of like yours - different circumstances, the same cruddy feeling. By the time the end of that year rolled around we were giving the finger to it to say goodbye on New Years Eve. Things have been much much better since then!

There were some dark times, some extra weight to get rid of, and a lot of shifts in attitude to get from there to here. You're a strong, good, caring, focused woman - you can get there too. Do your best to focus on the good stuff, and vent when the bad stuff gets in your head. At least if you vent it you can start to let it go!

    Hugs and butterflies,

Oh... I'm a great venter! My poor husband! He's the reason I've never needed therapy.

I'm listening to Brian Setzer's Dig That Crazy Christmas. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be down while listening to him sing In the Mood!

Tomorrow I swear I'll start seriously training again. I've figured out my goals for the year. That's always a good feeling.
