We all know that chocolate is good for you, but my latest cholesterol test prooves it.
Total cholesterol = 166
TRI = 58
HDL = 82
LDL = 72
I had really good results 4 years ago but it's even lower now that I'm drinking mochas. Yippee!
From some academic site but I forget which:
Choosing Healthy Chocolates. As some recent studies suggest, chocolate—in moderation—may be good for your health. For instance, chocolate contains antioxidants (which may help prevent cardiovascular disease) and stearic acid (which may increase levels of HDL "good" cholesterol).
Just had to celebrate. I love test results like this.![]()

You mean other than drinking way too many mochas this past year? Nope. OK, when I didn't drink mochas it was heavy cream with a little coffee.![]()
I've always had low cholesterol but this even blew away the results of the last test. I have no explanation. Aerobic exercise is one of the three ways specifically mentioned as a way to lower cholesterol - and not smoking. That one was really hard.![]()
I am really pondering. Maybe a little less cheese. We also switched to Eggbeaters but that was for the fat not the cholesterol.

it's probably not less cheese, but rather thoughtful pairings of cheese with wine and/or port...

The edible ones are a product which has the yolk removed so you have all the protein and none of the fat. You can't make a poached or fried egg with them, but you can do just about anything else: omelets, dutch baby pancakes, etc.

When we're on fishing trips and staying in a hotel with a microwave we'll dump a single serving container in a microwave bowl and cook it, and then make a sandwich with an English Muffin. Add a Morningstar sausage patty and you have tons of protein, little fat and even a little fiber. Far better than the normal eggs and sausage breakfast at the local diner.
MP, I'm sure port has all the same medicinal qualities as red wine, right?

Well, duh....
... from the New York Times:
Substance in Red Wine Could Extend Life, Study Says
By NICHOLAS WADE
Published: November 1, 2006
Can you have your cake and eat it? Is there a free lunch after all, red wine included? Researchers at the Harvard Medical School and the National Institute of Aging report that a natural substance found in red wine, known as resveratrol, offsets the bad effects of a high-calorie diet in mice and significantly extends their lifespan.
Their report, published electronically today in Nature, implies that very large daily doses of resveratrol could offset the unhealthy, high-calorie diet thought to underlie the rising toll of obesity in the United States and elsewhere, should people respond to the drug as mice do.

Are you asking me to be your lab mouse or to join you in mutual lab mousedom? Probably no Bubba tonight. The experiment just won't be the same. And, I do like such experiments on cold rainy nights.
On the otherhand, I was going to fit the Race Blades to my cross bike tonight. Maybe I should do both so you won't hear me cussing.![]()

BTW, does port go with pumpkin pie? If so, which one? Maybe that's not a good experiment.

Pumpkin is a vegetable. It doesn't count.
You should definitely have red wine before working on the race blades. (I thought Joe was doing that for you?)

All this talk of knitting. I've decided that the first rainy night of the year should be spent curled up in bed with, of course, my knitting, SB chocolate, ruby port, the Wonder Poodle, and Jon Stewart. He's kind of short, but Bubba's out of town so he'll have to do.
I think I'll take the blades to Joe tomorrow because I need to put on the new stem which also means she needs a new front brake cable, and I'm just not in the mood. Though I might wake up and feel a spurt of enthusiasm for dealing with the fenders, but I'm sure the Wonder Poodle would vote for a walk instead. Especially if a pumpkin scone is involved.
Sweet dreams, everyone.
