    it's convenient for me becuase i can use them anywhere. (it's not really a card, it's a code and a phone number.)

    I looked at those cards. Is there any particular one you use? I noticed that some have maintenance fees, don't want that. Also, can these be used in multiple countries? He isn't spending much time in each one.

    I use the cardinal i believe. i don't like maintenance fees, and yes you can use them for all the countries listed.

    I had to buy a separate one for cellphone destinations in Italy which are SO expensive for some reason.

    I call my mom to Ukraine all the time using the AT&T calling card thta I bought at Sam's Club or Costco. But you cannot send this one to yur son. However, any European country will have their own cards that he can buy and use. They are inexpensive.

    There is a new service http://www.jajah.com/ which does not require computers and will connect you directly to the phone. There is no charge at all or negligible if you are calling to a cell phone.
