Woohoo!!! Sara Carrigan did it and won the women's road race for Australia!! It was fantastic, although the day before i had heard some goss from a very reliable source that our girls were on fire and ready to race - looks like they were right.

    How 'bout that crash ???

I was rooting for Joane Somarriba...I think I must be some kinda jinx

Congrats to the Aussies! Makes up for the disappointment in the men's race, eh?

That crash was such a bummer ! Does anyone know Van Moorsel's condition, and if she'll be able to compete in the remainder of her events?

I heard that she's in doubt for the time trial - it's supposed to be a bit of a wait and see thing.

Hi Ausgirl - you must be stoked! Am I right in thinking Sara C. is fellow Queenslander.

I was very disappointed Nicole Cooke didn't win, and even more so that she didn't even make the podium but she's young - she'll have another chance.

Hats off to the Aussies though!

    Hi MightMitre!

You're right, I am stoked and Sara Carrigan is a Queenslander. I think she's from the Gold Coast so her club might have been the Cats (not sure though). I heard Nicole Cooke had a rough season though, injuries and so probably didn't have a great lead up to the Olympics. Am i right? She has got plenty of time ahead of her - she's young.

    Bring on the track racing!!!

Hold on, we still have the time trials on Wednesday - then we can bring on the track racing

And it looks like Leontien van Moorsel will compete in the time trial after all - what a gutsy dame

I met Leontien at the Gent 6 Day track competition in Belgium last year and not only is she a gutsy dame but she's very glamourous too! She always has painted nails and make up when she races - not for me, I hardly wear make up at the best of times but I think she likes to show that even though she's a professional athelete she's still a woman.

Yes - Nicole Cooke injured her knee last year and hardly raced at all this year, hence she couldn't defend her world cup jersey. But then her come-back race was the British National Championships which she promptly rompted!

    Bring on the track racing....

    Cool time trials

    Woohoo !!!

The gutsy (and glamourous!) Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel pulls it off, followed by Jo's bike goddess Dede Demet-Barry.

Tyler shows what he can accomplish when he manages to stay on the freakin' bike , Ekimov shows what an uber-stud he is, and, and, and, ....I am rendered speechless!

    - Jo, giddy as a little schoolgirl

Yes - hats off to Leontien. What a superb ride!!! And nice one Tyler. He deserves its.

But what's going on with Ullrich?? How come he was so low down the placing? Is he ill or has he just lost the will...?

There was some mention during the US broadcast of the men's road race that Ullrich was in an accident the week before; I didn't catch any details though.

Well, congrats to both Leontien and Tyler! They aren't who I wanted to win, but they are both good riders who worked hard and deserved it. I just hope that Leontien gets beaten in the IP by Sarah Ulmer and/or Katie Mactier.

On another track - did anyone watch the men's 4x200m f/s relay. Yes, Australia lost, but did you see Michael Klim? I swear, you could not find an athlete with a better body at these games! If i can find a pic i'll attach it to this site.

I wouldn't call getting a silver "losing". Although I'm sure to the swimmers it was. That was a very close race and really could have gone either way. Italy finished third a full 4 seconds behind. That's a lot!

yeah, but that's OUR event, a silver is a loss when you're the defending champions. everyone reckons hackett was the wrong choice for the 1st swimmer - he started too slow, but what do you expect from a 1500m specialist. Hackett's just not the best choice for anything less than 400m. Still, Klim has sworn he will come back in 2008 to get revenge and so the saga of rivalry between Aussies and Yanks in the relays will continue...
