KSH- I ALWAYS take some Cytomax and Luna Bars with me in case I can't get anything else. Sounds like the organizers didn't plan for enough food. They should know- 24 times doing this ride. Give me a break!!!!!!!!![]()

I don't know about this year, because we didn't make it to Hell's Gate in time, but last year they did have food at the rest stops after Hell's Gate. They had sandwiches at one. They were cooking hamburgers and hotdogs at another and had WATERMELON. Maybe we just didn't get to the right rest stops. I think the rest stops are very good. If you need more than they offer take food with you. That is what we do.

Yea, they had BBQ and Hot Dogs and mile 70 (we had 4 miles to go)... but I'm vegetarian. And... at mile 70... it was time to just get it done. And, I needed food at miles 40-50. Oh well.
Well, I did make a mistake when I packed my jersey before the ride. I was about to stuff it full of food, and then I reminded myself that on the MS150 I carried all this stuff with me (it was heavy!), and I didn't use ANY of it.KSH- I ALWAYS take some Cytomax and Luna Bars with me in case I can't get anything else. So, I talked myself out of carrying food, thinking I could depend on the rest stops... since this is such a HUGE organized ride.
Lesson learned.

I'm attempting my second century ride tomorrow, Sept 2. I'm curious to see if it's any easier than my first. I hope it is. I've been doing a lot of racing, one TT and pounding local hills in the big chain ring. Hopefully it's done me some good.

Good luck Brecca..I think I might try another attempt at a Century with KSH around late October. I am signed up 4 two local rides, but, will not be putting in too many miles at them as of right now. I will be riding with other company that can not ride that far. I will be curious to see if the second one is going to be just as hard, or that my body is getting slowly more conditioned.Originally Posted by Brecca

Well, I did my second century ride on Saturday.I rode a Catrike Speed and my fiance a Catrike 700. The first 55miles were very hilly with 9% grades every ten minutes. It was painful....very painful. Dave received an emergency call from a patient interrupting our ride at 55 miles so we could head back into town to discover that he didn't show up at the office. We set back out at 5:30 and finished our ride in the dark, getting home at 9pm. The last 45 miles were blessedly flat, but we managed to cut 45 minutes out of my last century finishing it in 7 and a half hours.
I maxed my top speed at 41 miles per hour on one hill and Dave maxed at 43. I finished with an average of 13.2, which is only down one tenth of a mile from my first century and considering the hilliness of the first 55 miles...I'm not complaining. The trikes performed well, no sore bottom, just tired legs!!
