I am so jealous of you girls I am doing my first century this weekend, and I am riding it by myself, I am hoping to find someone to ride with but not raising my hopes high. I wish I had someone to ride with and yell at me at mile 75 !!!

Good luck on your century, I will be waiting to hear your report and will post mine as well. Take pictures!!!

Hey me too - a little bike buddy envy going on here :P

If you give us your phone number and a time to call, I promise we can round up a few people to yell at you at mile 25, 75, or 99

Good luck FreshN! Maybe you can make some friends on the road? Find someone who is your pace and riding alone... and join up?

Can't wait to hear your report! You can do it lady!

KSH, I use Succeed S! Caps, one every hour is moderately hot/sweating, one every 30 minutes if very hot/sweating a lot.

KSH- My jelly beans stick to gether too! I just eat two at a time and sometimes more! Oh well- we live within cycling distance of the factory so it's hard to resist! (Cytomax is made in MY town too! Love that stuff!!!)

Re eating- I tend to not eat enough myself and am now really getting rigorous about making sure I get something eaten every 1/2 hour or so. I tried this the other day on a 77 mile ride and it really DID make a difference.

FreshNewbie (in case you read this)- I've done many a century on my own with no one else around me who kept my pace (or could I keep theirs). It's not impossible, just more fun to be with others. However, the rest stops are great places to meet up with people. You'll probably start seeing the same people at each rest stop as you are all going about the same rate of speed! Good time to chat and meet new friends! Most of all, have a good time and know that you have accomplished a great goal!

Ha! Ha! The theme of the day was, "Karen can't find food". More in a full race report later... but let's just say the food at the rest stops was pitiful (how can ANYONE ride 75-100 miles on fruit and cookies?)... and I was silly and thought they would have food at the rest stops.

I will post a DETAILED race report in the "Race Reports" section... once I have the time to sit down and write it out. Let me just say this though, Heidi was an AMAZING partner! I was very lucky to have her out there with me! The girl can ride into some WIND! I doubt I would have made it as far if she hadn't been there!

Thanks Ms. Karen! I am sure, I would have given up without your support!!!! I can be pretty tough on myself...I always want to give it my best shot...My thighs are aching today! I guess, that is good...I am ready for another ride though...I had soooooo much fun being around all the bike people. What an experience. Even though it was "Hotter N' Hell"...

On my long organized rides I always carry some food. You never know if the rest stop will have something you want or whatever. The HHH is well supported, but you can't ever be over prepared in my opinion. If you get hungry in between you aren't miserable or you won't bonk. Good luck gals, can't wait to hear how great it was!

Bike Goddess! thank you for advice! I actually found two girls to ride with :-) I posted a message on the ride's message board on yahoo and two girls responded!!! We already exchanged cell phone numbers, and decided on the time to meet. I hope it will turn out nicely, but I must tell you I am 15% happier about my ride, so it makes it 115% Thanks for advice.

rheidis73(heidi) and I will be attempting our first 100 mile ride on Saturday, 8-26

I hope your ride was a success! I did my first century in July to celebrate my 53rd birthday. I was exhausted and sore at the end of it and never felt better in my entire life! My fiance, who does a century a month and has for the past 76 months, rain or shine, says that doing 100 miles is what seperates riders from cyclists! Welcome to the club!

We averaged 17mph the first 52 miles. Slowed down after that. We were did not stop until the 5th rest stop. We made it to Hell's gate at 11:15am. They were just putting up the "closed" banner. We thought we were getting there in plenty of time!

    Stats: 74 1/2 miles 15.5mph average 4 hr 47 min.
