speaking of body parts, i took my mother out to adopt a cute new kitten to replace her dear old cat that died, and my mother says to me, your figure is better now that you're riding. Your legs look great and so does your butt!
    my mother said that!

so with all this impressive (cough) musculature, why are all of those muscles screaming after our wild 33 mile ride yesterday?
I think i just proved that it's a lot easier to ride 100 miles on THE BACK of a tandem than it is to ride 33 miles on the roadbike.
    NOw, mind you, i was exhausted completely after the 100 miles (talking about day 1 of RSVP ) and completely wiped out;
but after my little 33 mile ride, i have sore muscles EVERYWHERE. Going down stairs is fun.
    how can that be?

I wonder, Mimi, if the work you're doing on a Tandem is all the same aerobically but on a slightly lesser scale strength-wise, so while the long rides on the Tandem have done great stuff toning and improving your endurance, a shorter ride on a roadie (at the same speed you'd expect on a Tandem) has your muscles screaming "HEY! LUNGS! HEART! WAIT UP!!!!!" Just a thought. It's early and I haven't had my coffee.

I think that's pretty accurate. I get happily fried after long tandem rides but rarely have muscle soreness--however, I always come out of my single bike rides (where I try to work myself pretty hard to build strength and speed) with some mild muscle soreness--it's how I know I'm working those muscles hard, with no help.

Thank you both, I didn't know. I was starting to wonder if i was a dilettante, sitting on the back of the tandem while dh slaved away under my weight.

So we now have a knotted tri veteran here. very cool, huh!

thought of Nanci last night; as we got to know the son's new girlfriend who is allergic to cats, dogs, and other furry things, SHE had pet snakes.

Craze, I'm not sure how to cheer you up. If I go shopping and buy some stepping stones for the walk I am making, will that help? If I put off doing a gastrografin enema (on a pt, not me) till tomorrow, will that cheer you up? (It works for me!) I will give Mr. Bird some kisses- that always makes me happy. I have a new bottle of wine, a Chardonnay/Riesling from SE Australia that I plan on tasting tonight- what an odd combination- I am looking forward to it! I will toast to you with Dillbird and the tort babies- that should help...

I'd have to say my overall favorite state is Washington. Covey Run, Chateau Ste. Michelle, Columbia Crest all have excellent cheap wines.

Hey Nanci what winery is it from?? I use to live down the road from the Barossa Valley (South Australia) and had a lovely time tasting wines....no idea about wines just liked trying them all.

PS Do you know what the bird is in the Holstein thread pictures???

    What Holstein thread?

It's Lindemans. I also like Rosemount. But not all of either. Not Yellowtail. Of course Penfolds. I have a Kangarilla Road Shiraz I'm sitting on, and a Jacob's Creek sparkling wine, and a Fox Creek red blend of mostly Shiraz.

Queen, sorry to hear you're needing to leave Tucson. It sucks to have the same things in life cost way too much more.

CC--cheer up, mate! There's Clif Bloks on the way! And Lara bars! All the house hunting stuff can be exhilerating, but exhausting, too.

I posted my tri times up in the Race Results. I am, overall, happier about them than I expected to be. I must've added 3 min on the bike, fiddling with my race #. I'll never put it on that way again. It was like a flag between my knees, blowing and scraping my legs with every pedal stroke. I finally wrapped it up under my bento box.

Today: Vacuum, clean, grocery shop, return the Zero X to LBS. Think I'll stick with my Serfas saddle for now, unless Nanci convinces me to try the Vitesse! L.
