OOoh, I hate that. Sounds like a spider. Itch, no, hurt, yes.

I lived with an ex and her German Short-Haired Pointer once. We were in the kitchen after a walk one evening, and saw drops of blood on the floor. After we ascertained that neither of us were bleeding, we checked out the dog very carefully. Turned out that when she'd nosed around in some bushes and backed out with a "YIPE!", it was because a cat had swatted her on the snout! She had a long scratch. Poor pups!

I'm carbo-loading. Beer and nachos. Beer counts, right?

and I'm being smart, carbo loading in advance. A week in advance... but who's counting?

Gotta go to bed now, cuz I have a date with the algae and milfoil at 8:30 a.m.

One last look at the Waterford before I go.

    G'night!

I want to thank you ladies for keeping me company for a good chunk of my shifts... I'm here 'til 11 tonight, but 1 on weeknights, and the boredom's pretty painful.

    *hugs!*

Just got home from seeing an awesome blues guitarist. Jack Semple. Probably a Canadian so none of you will know him of course...

Knottedyet - beer does count as carbo loading. I'm sure of it. And sips don't count as calories, no matter how big they are. I'm sure of it.

Kitsune - what do you do for a living at midnight? I really enjoy your sense of humour - nice to have you here...

DebW - your rock collecting story is ever so much more interesting than my wall building. Wish I could write like that. You need to post on Kits' Lit thread...

    Brix

    Brix
The measurement of soluble solids in grapes at harvest, taken with a refractometer and expressed in degrees. In unfermented grapes, degrees of Brix are approximately the same as percent of sugar. After fermentation, the alcohol concentration is roughly half the sugar concentration of the juice. Thus, grapes harvested at 22.5 degrees Brix will produce a wine with an alcohol content between 12.5 to 13.5%.

I just bought tickets for the Be Good Tanyas who are coming to Scotland in November - they are Canadian and one of my favourite groups. I've heard Neil Young and Joni Mitchell are quite good too.

    PS Good luck to FishJr!

Sorry just to break in like this...but this thread is fascinating.

The school supplies are all packed up and labeled. I've ironed her clothes (that won't happen often) and the camera is ready. She's currently standing on my bed singing her heart out. Fishfry is sitting on my lap with his blanket. Life in my house. FJ is looking forward to getting homework. Problem is - I'm not sure she's going to get any. We told her we'd buy her a new workbook and she can do that every afternoon.

Ooh - this thing in my lap has started to smell a little funky (Fishfry... not the blanket). Be back in a bit. Fun.

Snap, I went to a kitchen store yesterday to buy something for Secret Sis. I also spent $40 on new oven mitts and potholders. I love them!! I don't think I've had new kitchen stuff since I moved to Florida in 1998. My towels, though...BF has some sweet towels, just for him. Big and soft and cuddly Egyptian Cotton. I like a bath sheet, such as from Company Store, and a pretty small low-pile bath towel for my hair.

Speaking of 1998, I am tasting a Reserve Rioja from 1998. I am not impressed. I must be a young wine only liker. I'm not that into the old leather, pepper, dust, coffee taste. Give me wild overbearing fruit any day.

So while I was at Sam's Club, I scored a Muscat dessert wine from Australia, a Temperanillo rose, from Spain, a California Chard I hadn't heard of, imagine that, and a Riesling from Australia. Also about eight dinners. We're having lasagna tonight.

I took the torts out to graze, but it began raining. 81F and raining here, 87% humidity.

I rode 30 miles with my group. I caught a Rough Green Snake! Picture to follow some day! This is the only green snake in Florida, very sweet, likes to climb trees, never bites. In less than five minutes it was so calm anyone could hold it just by letting it crawl through their fingers- no need to grasp on to it. Released back into the tree.

I found out a girl in my group has left her husband. MWBR. She has lost a ton of weight, I noticed today. Her jersey is hanging on her. You can see what her face is supposed to look like. Lucky. She rode 50 miles today. I love seeing people's mileage go up. I hope she loves riding. She's the group's TDF expert.

    It's really raining now.

I had a three hour nap.

I think I'll go watch Seinfeld.

New saddle should be here Wednesday or Thursday. Fish, you have it, right? Is yours 2005 or 2006? Are the shorts you don't love the Shebeast pretty expensive ones that I got, but didn't keep?

I'm still loving the RS Flexes. I should buy another pair before they are changed. I suspect they are changing the fabric. I wish Susan would tell us what exactly is being changed. I love the light fabric. I heard rumors that it didn't hold up well- spontaneously disintegrated or something. I haven't had mine long enough to comment.

    No kidding, CWR. Ugh.

Kelownagirl- I'm officially a security guard, but due to office politics and the "I don't want to do it, let's have Security do it" drift of things here, I'm more an office assistant and receptionist in a funky uniform. I don't mind the job, it's just the hours...
...oh, wait, I hate the job, too.

Kitsune - do you have any other job prospects? Those hours sound lousy, especially if you don't like the job to begin with.
