KSH - thank you for being one who doesn't feel sexy in your bike shorts. Maybe it's something that comes with time, or the "right" short, or the "right" body shape. For me, any type of clothing that presses into a part of my body that otherwise would not be pressed (and causes that bulge on either side) is no friend of mine.
For instance, I have had a belly ring for 13 yrs now, and wear everything "low-rise" and loose (hate the feeling of something touching my belly button - it's like I am being choked )
Most bike shorts come way up high - and make the part above the waistband bulge out - and then the grippers on the thighs cause all kinds of weird bulges.
Of course when I try to go up a size (to be looser) then there is movement/chafing, etc. Not good. Neither option make me feel sexy. Just being honest.
