I have read a fair bit on protein supplements, and most companies are actually MARKETING companies, that have nothing to do with health food at all. The thing is, most sources of protein powder are waste product from various industries and some chemist managed to find a way to sell it.
Most people DO NOT NEED extra protein in their diet. Some do, but can easily get it from actual food not a powder. ie eat some protein at dinner and lunch kind of thing.
If you want a good post workout drink, just make the smoothie with some yogurt, milk (either from dairy or another source - this will depend on your tolerance and allergies) and fruit and skip the powder. Unless you have some kind of digestive issue that your body is not processing protein properly, NO ONE actually needs the powder.
another of my two cents.

I agree.
Smoothies are wonderful and refreshing and I know for me, I consume plenty of forms of protein in my regular daily intake of food.
