I buy special socks for cycling because they are usually cheaper than the very similar socks I buy for running; my running socks have a little padding in the sole and the cycling socks don't need that.

But any socks are good!
Funny, the socks I use for running and cycling are super thin, coolmax wicking socks. Some have dimpled tops so that the air flows better. None have padding anywhere. They are also pretty cheap.

I think of cycling socks as being stiffer, thicker and more expensive actually, than the running socks. And they feature interesting & strategically placed graphics.
