I wanted to share this with you, especially for anybody doing a sponsored event of any type for the first time.

Six months ago I decided to do a sponsored bike ride in London, my target was £350, that's around $545. Even this amount I was not sure of reaching.

Week by week I thought of different people to ask, different companies to write to. Even just calling in on local shops and blagging a couple of quid here and there. My friends rallied round and did lots of weird and wonderful things to raise money for me, all quite unexpected.

Well, eventually it reached over £5000 or $8035.

Somebody on another thread relating to the bike ride asked me "yeah, what did you get"?

"I" didn't want or expect anything, I was just raising money for Leukaemia Research................then I get an invitation to receive an Award!

So, last Monday I went up to Piccadilly, London to receive an Award for Outstanding Individual Fundraiser.

The evening was a very emotional one, so many people there who either had leukaemia or had children in remission, yes, I shed a lot of tears that evening but also it was a good feeling to have raised money that will go towards the research of this awful illness.

    Thank you for reading this.

I applaud you. As someone who has trudged the 'please support me in my efforts' arena, I have never attained your level. Congratulations on your most wonderful accomplishment, for the goal you reached, for the person you became achieving such a high standard and for the organization you raised funds for...

Oh yes, now this I meant to write in the first post.

At the time it seemed a bit daft, keeping two spreadsheets (Excel) of everybody I had asked for money and those that had politely refused.

It saved any embarrassing duplications but most of all, 6 months later it was so useful to be able to reply to all the people who had sponsored me with a 'BIG' thanks.

The times I used this spreadsheet, also to chase people up, rightly or wrongly I did that a lot, especially when people said they would sponsor me and then forgot!
