Way to go Mountainchick! It is far better to lose the weight slowly and change the habits that brought on the pounds. You are starting off on the right foot to permanently keeping it off.
I'm right there with you on the slow approach, having lost almost 60 pounds in 5 years. Cycling was the best cardio exercise I found to combine with diet changes until I got enough weight off to where running was an option for me. Course I fell in love with cycling but running is sometimes more practical for my schedule. Now I do a little of both plus a boot camp style workout twice a week. Cardio burns the cals, boot camp builds the muscles, and watching the diet (most of the time anyways!) keeps the rest in check.

I'm trying to take the weight off slow since that usually yields better results (as in not gaining it back as fast, etc).
