    Maternity cycling clothes

    To disable ads, please log-in.

    Hello,

I am currently 3 months pregnant. This is my first pregnancy as a cycling addict and I was wondering of anyone knew of a place where I could get cycling clothes for pregnant riders? My clothes are getting too uncomfortable to wear so I am not even riding due to the discomfort. I have tried wearing my DH's larger clothes but they still dig into my stomach.

If there are any other ladies who continued riding during their pregnancy I could use some advice!

    Thank you, Michelle

Congrats on you upcoming bundle of joy!

I did a yahoo search and found the following site. Since I've never been pregnant, and never plan to be- I don't know if they are comfortable or practical, but it's a place to start. Hopefully someone with some knowledge will be able to help you out more.

    men's clothing

When my friend was pregnant she wore her husbands bike jerseys when hers got too tight.

Congratulations! I believe Terry makes a short designed for pregnancy.

    Another preggo rider here! :D

    Yay! Congrats on the news!
When is your due date? I ask b/c I am also 3 months along. 15 weeks, 4 days to be exact.
I am still riding as well, and have seen maternity shorts on the TE site. You may also look at Title 9. I don't know if they have cycling clothes, but I do know they have good maternity/nursing sports bras.
I've heard mostly about people getting larger men's shorts/clothes. Not just hubby's but buying L and XLs
How long do you plan to ride? What kind of riding do you do? I'm struggling with how long I should continue riding. I know that is something I need to ask my doc, though.
There's a ride coming up at the end of this month I want to do, but fear I may be too big. This is my second child, though, so I am a little poochier this time around.

I ended up getting a pair of mens XL cycling shorts on clearance. I'm normally a size 12--so if you are smaller, you may only need a mens Large. They were great for pulling up and over my tummy--sooo comfortable and less expensive than buying specialty shorts.

For jerseys, I wore DH's old worn out ones, snipping the elastic waist in some of them. Otherwise I wore t-shirts or got some cheap workout tops from Target.

I am 18 weeks (4+ months) and so far I can still wear 2 pairs of my normal shorts, however jerseys are becoming a problem. The only one I have that doesn't have bottom elastic is my long sleeve and it's still too warm to wear that. Great idea on wearing DH's jerseys, he's got several that don't have bottom elastic, those should work well. Thanks!

I just have to add that it really irks me that the only maternity jersey available is pink. Why do clothing manufacturers assume that all women like pink? I don't like pink and I absolutley refuse to wear it.

Title 9 does not carry any maternity clothing. I actually wrote them a letter to express my disappointment in this, and their reply was that there just isn't enough of a market. Most maternity "active wear" I've seen consists of yoga pants and hoodies. Great for yoga, not so great for those of us who run, swim, do aerobics, cycle, etc . . . (And while I'm complaining I'll just add, what the heck am I supposed to sleep in? That's great that they make nursing sleep wear, but what about from now until then? Anyone seen any PJ's for pregnant women? Can you tell I've had a frustrating week trying to find maternity clothing? )

I preferred to sleep in the buff during that time I couldn't stand to wear anything with a waist while I was trying to sleep. When I was bumming around the house, I wore light-weight maternity tanks with a shelf bra and pajama pants.

Ahh, the memories. How about a comfy pair of mens boxers with his tshirt or a tank top? I like Limewaves idea too - enjoy it now. Afterwards you'll be leaking all over the place so you'll have to wear something

I've never been able to sleep in the buff. DH hates it that I have to get dressed ahem afterward . . . simply can't sleep. I'm already wearing a sleep bra, the girls have grown so much it's uncomfortable with out it. So I'll be used to that when the leaking starts. Thanks for the tip about the men's boxers and t-shirt. In my case I guess I'm thinking men's flannel pants. I need warmer pj's in the winter.

    Thank you

Thanks for all of the great advice, I knew this was the place to get the help!

Congrats to HoddyToddy and HappyAnika, nice to have preggy buddies who love riding!

I am 13 weeks along, pretty close to you HoddyToddy! This is my 6th little one so my tummy assumes the pregnant position very quickly, it seems that once my eyes see the positive on the stick my body turns pregnant the next day!

Now that I have plenty of ideas for clothing, I plan to ride as long as the weather lets me. Winter weather will get in my way once I get to the later stages so I won't have to worry too much about the desire to ride then.

Although I am a size medium in womens cycling clothes, my DH's XL shorts still bother my tummy, I hate any pressure especially when I am battling morning sickness. The idea about cutting the elastic on the mens jerseys is a good one since it is the elastic that I don't like. I am going to check out the maternity shorts, they sound great.

I have to agree about the pink jersey thing! I am already a bit shy about the big belly in spandex, bringing it out in pink would make me feel like a big lump of cotton candy on a bike!

Thanks again for all the support, you gals are great!
