There's actually an explanation for this? I thought it was just that after the first bite there was a bit of swelling so that further bites were that much more likely. But maybe that's not it at all.

Well, yes. The insides of my cheeks have the visible imprints of all that biting over the years. Not only that, I didn't realize that my tongue has teeth marks on the sides too. My acupuncturist (Pika) pointed out that the teeth marks indicate a swollen tongue, which, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine is a sign of low spleen energy.
I have no idea what the biting the insides of my cheeks means, though.![]()

Dang it- all the stinkin' time. When I chew gum it's worse. I always bite my cheeks when I chew gum (and when I eat, and heck- even for no apparent reason).
I always thought I was a freak-a-zoid on this issue. It's like I don't know how to chew...![]()

I actually did have problems with biting my cheek and my tongue but that was all to do with facial abnormality (if anyone dares snicker, I will look defiant!). I had jaw reconstructive surgery last year and no more bite marks.
I have some scar tissue from biting my the insides of my cheeks, but unfortunately, it isn't accidental, exactly. It is a stress-related thing I do unconsciously.![]()
