Question Bike not quite right -sell??

    Hi Ladies,

I have a Trek 2.1 WSD 2010 model. It doesn't feel quite right, I've had it fitted numerous time as LBS...

I bought a second bike for CX. It's a Specialized Crux. I feel more stable and confident on this bike. And I like it a lot more and it's the bike I normally reachfor... It fits great. Only problem is it has CX/bumpy tires (although I could swap those out for the summer). And it's a bit harder to pedal up hills.

So I am wondering - do I need two bikes? And if yes, would I be better off selling the Trek and getting another bike? If I sell and get another bike - aluminium or do I really need a Carbon bike?

    Thanks for the help!!

What feels wrong about the Trek 2.1? And what kind of rides do you use a road bike for?

    - Gray 2010 carbon WSD road bike, Rivet Independence saddle
    - Red hardtail 26" aluminum mountain bike, Bontrager Evoke WSD saddle
    - Royal blue 2018 aluminum gravel bike, Rivet Pearl saddle

    Gone but not forgotten:
    - Silver 2003 aluminum road bike
    - Two awesome worn out Juliana saddles

Not sure exactly. It doesn't feel very sturdy and I feel too small. And shifting feels clunky.

As for riding - I do a 80-100km ride on the weekend and usually a shorter midweek ride of about 40-60km (10km laps), and I'm thinking to do some races this summer.

Sounds like you need a good bike fitting from the LBS where you bought it. And a tune-up for the shifting. Don't sell the bike without giving the shop a chance to make it right. It may be a very simple problem.

You can never have enough bikes. Different bikes do different things.

For the clunking, take it to your LBS and make sure it's in working order. If you decide to sell it, best to know now if something is wrong.

If you've had numerous fittings (same LBS or different ones?) maybe something is up. I had several fittings with my Madone. In the end I realized I hadn't truly bonded with the bike. I was sad when I sold it to pay a bill, but I don't regret selling it. It just never felt right and I couldn't put it into words.

How long have you had the bike?

Is there another bike that has caught your eye? Sometimes I think as we get better or more experienced, our needs/fits change. Maybe you've just outgrown this bike and it's time to move on.

I wouldn't sell the bike unless you find something else you are sure you want. Buyers remorse sucks. Then use the money from the bike to purchase the new one.

If anything, if your Crux goes into the shop, you do have a back up bike.

Two bikes are good, if for no other reason than having a backup.

I'd say get it tuned up to make sure everything's good. Is there a difference in the components between the Crux and the Trek? Also a good fitting. Spendy, possibly, but worth it. Other things...how long have you had the Trek?
At least I don't leave slime trails.
