    Talking Hula Hooping!!! Weeeeeeeeee.....

I never hula hooped as a girl so I didn't know what I was missing. This weekend, I tried it and I love it. I was in a course and the instructor had a couple of hoops there. Some of the participants in the course would go out and hoop over the breaks. It worked really well for bringing up my alertness level in class.

So now I'm looking to get or make a hoop. Has anyone else made a hoop. Anyone with hooping experience that can help guide me in my hula hoop quest?

    TIA for any input.

Wahine, I vaguely remember something, perhaps here on TE, about being able to make your own hoop. Did you try googling it? I know its out there. Not much help but I hope it helps.

I've made my own hoops, but I could have bought one for what I ended up spending in supplies . Here's a link with instructions http://www.jasonunbound.com/hoops.html. Bonus is that you have enough supplies to make quite a few. Hoopnotica (http://www.hoopnotica.com/) has great ready-made hoops and dvds.

I should have known that Brandi would be behind it!!

Turns out a co-worker has a hoop that is weighted that she doesn't use and is going to bring it to work with me tomorrow. Fun!!

I was using a weighted hoop for several months...I loved it! It was lots of fun, and I felt like it really worked my core. I did get a little bit of bruising when I first started using it (due to it being weighted...it was a 5lb hoop), but once I got past that issue...it was all good. Enjoy it! I actually miss it...haven't hooped ever since the trainer who owned the hoop, quit working at my gym. I had thought about buying one for myself, but they're like $50...and I'd rather spend that on bike stuff.

I got one at a concert this summer, was a little too intoxicated to learn it there , tried it a few times at home - but my problem is standing in one place. It definitely takes some concentration to hoop, but it doesn't really occupy my brain. I guess maybe if I were a TV watcher, I could clear enough space to hoop in front of the TV...

(PS - the one I got is just five pieces of PVC pipe with the male/male connectors in between them, covered with a tube of pretty cloths. Looks like it would be very easy to make.)
