    Edge 705 for Dummies?

Dh and I just bought an Edge 705, and are having lots of fun learning how to use it. However, the documentation is woeful, and I've been searching for answers to questions, both here on the TE Forums and elsewhere on the internet. Found some, not others.

Can anyone point me to a good "dummies guide"?

If I create a track (.tcx) of a ride, and there are errors in it (missed turns, etc.), is there a way to edit the track so that I can follow the correct route later? Mapmyride.com offers an option to edit, but it seems like you can only add points, not delete them.

If I download a loop (.gpx.) that goes near my house, but the start is several towns over, will the Edge allow me to navigate onto the route and then follow it back to my starting point, not the route's "official" end point? Can I move the start and end points on a ride somehow?

I think my questions are really software questions, not device questions. Any help is greatly appreciated- thanks!

Technically yes, but it's not for the technologically un-savvy. You can use an XML editor on the tracks before you convert them to courses, or maybe you can edit courses directly. I wouldn't know how to do it myself. It would take a lot of patience, and you'd have to know the latitude and longitude of all the points you'd want to insert. You can take a look at your tracks in any text editor to get an idea of what you're dealing with. The MotionBased forums can probably steer you in the right direction - there are some power users there.

However, just creating a new route in mapmyride would be way simpler.

You can join a route in progress. In your settings, make sure that you've disabled auto-recalculation (you probably want to do that anyhow). I'm pretty sure that when you reach the end of the route, you'll have to stop navigation and re-load the track to get you the rest of the way home, but I'm not positive about that.

As far as editing the route, see above.

I do wish there was an option to do a route in reverse. Maybe I'll post that as a desired feature...

    Thanks for the information!

I guess I'll just make some new routes based on others' shared routes...that's probably the easiest way. I'm looking forward to being able to ride at my parents' or inlaws' without stopping to consult a paper map or cue sheet every other mile!
