Hot! Hot! Hot!

I rode for 2 hours this afternoon. I drank 2 full bottles on the ride, a red bull and a 1/2 a liter of water when I got home. And still I lost 2 pounds! Yes, I know it's water weight and will return shortly. It's just amazing to me how much you can sweat. Not too much climbing on today's ride only 1360 feet, so I was cruising and didn't get the sweat in the eyes thing that I get going up Diablo, so it surprised me. I do like that at least our heat is dry. My heart rate monitor said it was 94. It always registers a little high. But I never felt like I was overheating. Evaporation! Gotta love it!

I wouldn't miss the pounds if they chose to stay wherever they went.

Here in Texas... we are having a heat wave!

It has been above 90 the past week.

I ran outside on Friday in 93 degree weather... what a butt kicker that was!

Then I rode on Saturday in 93ish degree weather... 15 miles was enough for me!

Now I understand the reasoning for getting up at 6 AM to ride !!!!

Where are you in Texas? I have a sister in New Braunfils. I know Texas is huge. Kind of like California. When we first moved out here and lived near San Diego there was an earthquake near San Francisco and everyone was calling us from maine to see if we had felt it.

We seem to have had good luck dodging the quakes.

Is this where I can whimper and whine about how I hate heat and humidity?

I know that we really don't have heat and humidity like some do, but I'm a hot weather wimp. I always feel sticky and sweat and gross from about now to October. Bleh.

Give me 40 degrees and a blustery (tail)wind and I'm happy. No wind and heat and humidity in the high 80's are just yuck.

If you really want 40 degrees and a blustery wind - come visit us in the northeast. I'll even provide a place to stay. Of course you also have to put up with the wet, and the nor'easter that is bearing down on us. Yesterday I heard a weather forecaster say that all but 2 days in May have been below normal temperatures for the Boston area. Yuck!

Right now I'd be happy to take some of V's Hot! Hot! Hot!

Interesting to read about all the different weather we have to deal with. I guess it's not perfect anywhere........... darn!
We've had a cold, wet, and windy spring here in Iowa. I am ready and more than ready for the hot, humid days of summer. I know its weird - most people do not enjoy the heat, but I always have. I HATE being cold. I don't like wearing layers and layers of clothes. Let me go out the door in a sport top and bike shorts, get in a good sweaty ride, drink lots of fluids, and I am in heaven! I endure the cold weather, I don't let it keep me inside, but I live for summer! And it's getting closer and closer....... Wheeeeeeeeeee!

It is hot here in Louisiana too, I think Texas heat wave has moved here!!! As they say here in LA, its not the heat that is so bad it is the humidity!!! Yeah right. I want to live in a place where 90 is the hottest in summer and it gets down in low to mid 40's in winter. Anybody know of a place like that?

Denise I was thinking of you the other day as I remember a post from you, but do not know if it is recent. You mentioned not riding at the potential that you expected to for this time of year. Maybe it is not you physically but this horrible spring weather is what is keeping you down. I know it has me very fustrated and trying to figure out a scientific reason for this change in weather pattern.

After this past weekend, I came to the conclusion that I guess I better start searching rain jackets. I know there are many posts on them here.

I feel like I've been complaining about that a lot, and I still haven't figured out whether it is still related to my recovery from my crash (which was a year ago last Friday!) or whether it is due to our really lousy weather not letting me get the miles in on my bike. Funny thing though, I looked at my mileage summary as of the end of last week, and it completely matched my mileage by the same date late year. Hmmm... Whatever it is, the only way I know of to fix this is to spend more time (and more miles too) on my bike! I was hoping to get 3 good riding days in over the Memorial Day weekend, but the weather forecast still doesn't look great. But if it's really just scattered showers (instead of the all out rain we're having now)... well, I'm still hoping for some relatively decent riding days.

The weather wizard apparently isn't listening to any of us. Maybe it's time to move!

Another Texan here to whine about this hot weather. It is like a humid oven here in west Texas and I'm used to dry heat. We rode Sunday and although the temp said 93 I'm betting the heat index was well over a 100. It was a punishing 27.8 miles. Not to mention the wind that completed that seared steak feeling.

I thought I had more time to ride midday. Looks like I'll be up really early to get a ride in from now on.

Which brings to question: what temperature do you draw the line at and say 'no way'! AND what sunscreen works best? I tried BullFrog Sunday. It was a spray. I think I'll go back to the BullFrog gel, that way I know I'll get all exposed skin.

I know it has me very fustrated and trying to figure out a scientific reason for this change in weather pattern.

You know, earthquakes are quite an interest to me. I've heard that some scientist somewhere calculated after the 9.0 Indonesia quake in December that this earthquake's upthrust was SO violent, more violent than any of the other 9-pointers in the last century (including the two Alaskan ones that also produced deadly tsunamis), that it actually shifted the earth on its axis very very slightly, like millimeters, or even less. I heard that this has happened before in the earth's history, but it was before recorded history. This was very small change, but it makes you wonder if it was "large enough" to cause a slight alteration in weather patterns around the globe.

welllllllllllllllllll that would be Albuquerque, New Mexico! as a rule the temps are in the high 90s from about June thru early Sept with the humidity in the lower teens. During monsoon, the humidity will climb during the afternoon right before our daily rainstorm lasting between 15-30 mins and only hitting parts of the city. Soon as the rain passes, the humidity drops back down and on we go! In the winter, as a rule - the temps are in the mid 40 to lower 50s. Now, like any city, we've got days in the summer where temps can go over 100 and days in the winter where they drop below freezing but that isn't the norm. And all my whining aside, this year was the most snow I've ever seen here in 6 yrs and it lasted all of 3 days.
As for heat - doesn't bother me. I'm with whomever said they'd rather have the heat than the cold. I did a 54 mile ride last Sun and left at 3 pm coz that was the only time I had to get the ride in. Everyone thought I was nuts but it didn't bother me. Like V - I just drank Lots and drank lots when I got home and I rode again the next day.

Get yourself some zinc oxide. It saved my hide when I rode CAR 7. I know, it's ugly, it's white, but it works. You are going to have the sun pounding on your right side, it can literally cook you! Put it on your ears, your shoulders (if you go sleevless), your cheeks. Wear it like war paint, wear it proudly!

I like Zinka brand in little tubes for my nose which gets the most sun pounding. They come in whacky colors:
