I really like this guy, I remember in the Tour 2 years ago, him riding after getting stung by a wasp, in the lip! Chugging along, lip out to ----->here!

    Eki is something else

Eki is truly amazing...the guy has been riding at a very high level for years. And this injury really sounds nasty - a broken sternum? ick. It's really sad to see he won't be racing with Lance in his last Tour.

That sucks that a pothole in Austin took him out.

    Scary even.

I went over some potholes today that were nasty... and I dodged even nastier ones (I am in Dallas)... I can certainly see where a really bad one would take a rider out!

    Damn!!

That is a nasty injury. Man, the odds are stacking against Lsnce for his swan song appearance at this years TdF.

I hope Ecki recovers well for his own sake... TdF or not. He's pretty tough though, and in great shape so perhaps his recovery will be swifter than the average bear.

Poor old Eki - sounds horrible, especially the corset he has to wear for 6 weeks.
Didn't he retire a few years ago only to start up again the following season?

Armstrong seems to have the luck of the devil. If the pothole had been a fraction wider he could have gone down, or, as Emily is experiencing rode into the back of Eki when he stopped.

Should start a new thread entitled 'How many lucky scrapes has Lance had during his career? '
