Thumbs up A Big Thank You - Mountain Bike Pedals

I would like to say a huge thank you to all who gave me advice and encouragement about mountain bike pedals on a road bike. I had a pair for my birthday and tried them out yesterday, they worked great, rode 19 miles never fell off and got in and out very easily, so easy in fact my s/o thinks he might change to mountain bike pedals!!!! Going to try them on my other road bike tomorrow and if ok again going to use them for my big ride on Sunday

ok refresher for me...were they clipless? I'm shopping for the same thing right now...what'd you get? I've been looking at the Speedplay Frogs...lots of people on here have said they're good. But, I'm not sure I want to invest that much money yet. I'm in a quandry of sorts...

    clipless

They are shimano PD-M520, a cheaper alternative to speedplay frogs, the guy at my bike shop said if i couldnt get out of these then there is no hope!! So far i have managed to get out of them. Last night i took a tumble, got tire stuck in groove in road, damaged my knee got a lot of road rash and bruising, but tomorrow i am riding a big charity ride so fingers crossed i make it
    Hope this helps

I think I saw those online. You can get in and out of them in a few different ways. How'd you do on your ride? Did you survive?

    Thumbs up Thanks for asking

The bike ride was great, i found it hard, a lot of hills one of which i walked up (hills not my strongest point yet) but it did it all 71 miles of it I was so proud of myself. I fell off only once but did not hurt myself this time.

I was in analysis paralysis, but pretty set on a pair of Frogs, about a year ago - when a cycling friend got me a pair of Candy C's and I've never looked back.

Way to go FurryDuck! There's no shame in walking some hills....I live in a very hilly area, and have to walk a few of them! I am going to the LBS tomorrow and I'm getting my shoes and pedals. Don't ask me what I've picked out, cause I can't remember, but they're easy in easy out ones. I'm such a natural klutz, this whole pedal thing should be interesting!

Analysis paralysis! You sound like me. Currently debating between Frogs, Time ATAC and Eggbeaters for my commuter bike.

LBS has Eggbeaters in stock, and my mechanic recommended them. I have Speedplay X2s on my road bike & like the float and how easy they are to unclip from, so I've been leaning towards the Frogs. My bike is probably going to be ready (mechanic is building it up) today or tomorrow.

I think I'm going to go with Eggbeaters because they are in stock, plus I can bring them back and blame my mechanic if I (or my knees) hate them.
