Smile Anyone have blue jean fit issues as a muscular cyclist?

    Hi,

I just have to ask all of my biking girls this question: Does anyone ever have problems with fitting into blue jeans due to having muscular quadriceps?

I have a difficult time wearing those ultra low rise flare type of jeans because they tend to fit really tightly in the quads which is not what I need LOL. And, this style is all the rage now. But, I have noticed it even with the straight leg style of jeans that the quads part does not fit right. I notice most jeans are too big in the waist for me as well or they fit too tightly in the gastroc's (calves) as well if they are not flares LOL...The butt part depends on how it fits. I am always perplexed why I can wear a size 4 in dress pants but when it comes to jeans, I have to wear one or two sizes bigger. They must do this intentionally to women to make us go crazy LOL.

What gives? Am I the only one with this problem?

I have heard similar complaints from bipeds as well about jeans...who knows, maybe it's just the way they design them? I am not desperate enough to go custom LOL...I'll save my money for the bike clothing LOL.

This is why I like athletic pants or yoga pants but sometimes a gal wants a pair of jeans...

Thanks for any help or input...

    Sincerely,

    Lisa

Try the Old Navy Weekender or Relaxed fit jeans. I had the same problem with "slim" fit jeans so I had to move into those. They're fitted in the waist then flare out - Slightly - over the hips and thighs and then snug back down at the ankles. They seem to fit both my quads and my calves. They're the only ones so far that also seem to fit snug in the waist.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

i definitely have the same problem... i used to buy boy jeans and cinch them tight with a belt, but i got tired of looking like, well, a boy. my mom is a big fan of old navy too (and also a cyclist) and swears by their jeans. i wear eddie bauer women's "stretch" jeans... they're a tad loose in the waist, but seem to fit okay elsewhere.

This is a pretty common problem with cyclists who have the muscle type that bulks up a lot. When my H was cycling competetively, he and all the guys he raced with had to buy jeans to fit their quads, and the waist would just be too big. He started buying the really relaxed fit Levis and those worked for him, but I don't think they make a similar model for women. Eddie Bauer has a very relaxed fit women's jean, at least I've seen it in their catalog. Never tried it, tho. Good luck!

Eeeeeek!! Tell me about it I thought I was the only one with this problem. It's soooooo annoying.

To get them to fit round the hips/thighs I have to go for a bigger size round the waist, but they then look baggy round the backside and my BF , bless him, complains it' makes my rear look saggy.

We don't have Old Navy in the UK. Looks like I'm going to have to do some retail research. Being on a budget too, this could be a tricky mission.

Being already genetically inclined to have "piano legs" I can't blame it on cycling. LL Bean relaxed fit jeans and Bayside pants fit my shape pretty well. The waist is a little big, but not terrible and there's enough room for my legs.

The Eddie Bauer boot cut jean and the J Crew boot cut has worked for me. I don't have a problem with too big of muscles (yet). I just can't stand those skin tight things and me being very small there's not much too choose from beside the teeny bopper tight jeans.

I find the Gap's boot cut (not the low rise boot cut) and the classic fit pants work well with muscular thighs.

    thanks so much

    Hey gals,

Thanks so much for the input and recommendations. I think I had been trying on many of the "teeny bopper" styles LOL...and even though I can wear those sizes in other clothing, I just can't do it with the jeans...I was starting to get really depressed when I went jean shopping I also think I need to try on the even-numbered sizes in jeans (misses) not juniors...I think Old Navy is even-sized numbers.

I think I will go to Old Navy this week though...they seem to have a good balance of looser fit with some style...I wish the baggy jeans would come back in style because then I could be my skater-girl self without all the stares...but, heck, maybe I'll throw caution to the wind and be out of the mold of what's "in"...that's not unusual for me.

    Many thanks and bear hugs,

    Lisa

I always buy jeans with some stretch in them...

My favorites are Levi's 518 for juniors, you'll need one size bigger than normal for these (don't ask me why juniors clothing is always sized one size smaller than misses, some evil conspiracy...)

I hate to admit this, but the London Jeans from Victoria's Secret are all I wear - I hate shopping in real stores. The 'Boyfriend Cut', which has a boot cut, and the 'Curve' seem to fit with a decent waistline that's appropriate for work, and the loose bottom fit well-defined calves.

LOL you can be thin and muscular

I think though you can be thin and muscular at the same time...Before I became an avid cyclist ten years ago, I had been a runner for many years so I have gigantic quads but they are very trim LOL...not something that facilitates wearing the low rise type of jeans LOL...I have some ultra low rise but they are the ones from Old Navy with stretch...stretch is a good thing LOL...

I get to go to an Old Navy outlet tomorrow...yay! I didn't know there was an outlet not far from me...
