    I've said it before...

I was at school the other day, and the conversation turned to my calves. Yes, I said my calves. I was wearing shorts, and one the the guys totally freaked out because of my monster calves. He actually asked if I did calve raises. I was able to tell him no, it is all cycling. Then a few days later, someone else made a comment about how big they are. In the same conversation, a comment was made about me being athletic. It amazes me when people make comments like that. It really made me glad that I spent the summer on my bike. By the way, I LOVE my calves.

Thinkin' of getting mine a nice tattoo... of a chainring on my right calf, since I'm gettin' chainring tattoos there all the time anyway.

    Right calf: tattoo
left calf: skin graft. surgery scar from having my left leg put back together, teeth marks from a dog (faded considerably after 20 years), scars I'm not entirely clear on how I got.

But oddly enough, no hair on the outside of my calves and I don't shave my legs at the moment.

What happened to your calf, boy in a kilt?

Funny, a fellow rider on the AIDS ride I was on, made a comment about my calfs. Said they were well developed. I was also at a wedding where a guest asked if I ran. I said no, why? He said because my legs looked like they did something other than walk. I told him I cycled of course. (Why run when you can ride!)

The skin graft is part of my collection from being burned in a car accident when I was young.

Having my leg put back together was an important lesson in "Pain is Nature's way of saying you're stupid." I pulled through too hard doing a wheelie on a mountain bike. When my left foot came down to catch me, it came down just a skosh wrong and I got a spiral fracture of my left tibia.

And the hair thing is genetic. I think. My dad started losing most of the hair on his calves when he was about 40. In my case, it's just migrated.
