Share the Road signs..how to get them?

Some friends of the cyclist that was killed last October and I want to have some Share the Road signs put up. Does anyone here have experience doing this?

Does your bike club have an education advocate or VP of Advocacy? Might be worth contacting them. Just a thought and not sure what it is worth. Good luck.

So far the bike club doesn't seem very interested. I may be wrong but They seem to want to move on.

I doubt that you could post the signs without permission from the local transportation agency/authorities/whatever, with or without the bike club.

Right. I know that we need to go to the authorities. but I don't know details. I thought if I could find someone else who had done it, they could give me direction.

Silver....I am aiming to do the same here on Long Island, NY. I am thinking that going to the DOT. As a new board member of our bike club, I plan to ask them for suggestions and maybe some help as time goes by.

They actually never heard of the Ride of Silence until I brought it up, now I am the one putting it together. I figure, start with this and then I will bring up the Share the Road signs.

In the meantime let me know if you find out anything and I will do the same.

I can only speak about our locality. The city of Milwaukee has a bike liason. Now, I don't live in the city or county of Milwaukee, but I discovered that the bike liason is a fantastic reference for information on the steps to enact change. Do you have an equivalent in your area?

In my case, I wanted to get a walk button installed on a stop light (yes, here it is legal to run a red light if it is controlled by a senser and you can't get it to flip, but the intersection is just dangerous--50mph with blind hills).

His suggestion was to first work through your elected officials because "they have a vested interested in keeping you happy and voting for them". If that fails, to contact the city or county engineering department that is responsible for the roadway.

    Good luck!

Hi Silver, yes I've had experience doing this, having placed Share the Road signs in a number of communities in the Grand Rapids MI area, and specifically having a set placed on both sides of the road where an area cyclist was struck and killed in Walker MI, that were stenciled in her memory.

Contact me if you'd like more info.

And all, PLEASE ride in a Ride of Silence in your area, to honor those who can no longer ride with us, and let the public know to Share the Road with us. (as of today, in 197 locations, in 6 countries and growing daily)
