In her speech to the modest crowd that assembled for the ribbon-cutting, Kollock-Wallace issued a challenge.

“It is a pleasure to be a model for all of you who are younger than I am,” she said to cheers. “And if you have not yet chosen to be a model, let’s do so today. Everybody’s watching you – everybody’s watching you. So let’s do something that will make people a better people.”

    I think I've found a model.

    This is awesome.
And why I love the group I ride with. One of our members turned 80 last week. While he didn't do the 39 mile sufferfest I did, he rode 22 miles on semi-hilly terrain, on a very humid and hot day. We have a new group that rides on Mondays, who are now slower, but still doing 30 mile rides. Several of the people from the regular group (which is a social, never more than a 15-16 average, for the faster people) ride with them as a recovery ride. I often see them riding around Concord when I go to work.
I know I'll have a group to ride with for a long time. Whenever I feel old, I think of the really fast guys in my group who are all around my age and still do incredible things. And they are engaged in life, just as the woman in the article.

Very cool! We've got a guy in our club who is 80 who leads the new riders on the 20 mile Saturday morning route. I love that and hope to be able to do the same when I'm 80.

Kollock-Wallace is awesome and she looks sturdy, fit for 75.

I was reading somewhere about a 66 yr. old senior who was evacuated from flood....with her caregiver. It felt kind of weird reading this (for me)....it's only 11 yrs. older than myself!

My friend's father rode the MS150 both days. He is 80! The MS150 in Duluth, MN this year used buses for sag wagons because the second day had such strong winds it was very difficult to ride, but he rode the entire 150 miles.

This year a woman in her 80s did AIDS Lifecycle -- 550 miles from SF to LA. She trained and she was ready!
